Lyse Doucet started presenting a BBC News special from Tamil Nadu on WORLD and 24 at 1100. Unfortunately there were some technical problems so we lost her for about 5 mins but she is back on now anchoring both channels.

I think it is time she moved on to more domestic coverage, she is fantastic and under-used.

Hopefully, she will be back again at 1200 with another special.

BBC News seems to be on full form this morning, excellent coverage with Lydnsey Douscet. They seem to be simulcasting with BBC World, The coverage overall from the BBC has been fantastic, Im aware they were caught with the pants down on Boxing Day, but the overage, not only on TV but radio, like World Service and Radio 4 has been outstanding. Refreshing to also hear the World Headline Bed, which is so more authoraitve, just overall very good.

The coverage may have been crap to begin with, but yeah agree it has got somemuch better.

Is it just me or....

Does it irritate you that the big red and white banner strap on News 24 keeps changing?

First was ASIA QUAKE and now it's ASIAN QUAKE and then sometimes it's ASIAN TSUNAMI and about two minutes ago it was QUAKE. They seemed to have settled on TSUNAMI, for now!
It seems hacks at News 24 can't seem to make their minds up what the story's called... which is slightly worrying given it's been going on for nearly five days.

And I see the ticker has changed s well from EARTHQUAKE to TSUNAMI... I reckon it's only a matter of time before EARTHQUAKE re-appears.

I think you'll find that Asian Quake is the News 24 strap, Asian Tsunami is the BBC World strap - so if the special joint bulletin is being 'driven' by World it'll say Tsunami - hence why it appears to keep changing.
Although it does now look like N24 are going to follow World so that stops.

Err.. breaking news, 125,000+ people are dead.

Don't be so narrow minded.

It seems slightly irrelevant to post BREAKING NEWS items in here, especially when concerning death tolls. They change by the minute.

I dont think this has been mentioned but On Wednesday at noon their will be a 3 minute silence, this was arranged by the culture securtary Tessa Jowel.
I think it should be a midnight tonight but thats just my opinion.

Some chap is currently being interviewed about the relief effort. Not terribly interesting, but what did interest me was the presenter's mention that the guest was "joining us from our Brighton studio". Why does the BBC have a studio in Brighton...?

For the same reason it has TV studios in lots of its local radio stations - to interview people who can't get to a larger regional centre!

Lots of local radio stations have small studios with a single TV camera - though some are now in the newsroom rather than a little studio of their own.

Makes sense. Thanks for that, nog.

Incidentally, it's just been announced that the US Government has increased its aid contribution to $350million . Quite an impressive leap.
