Yeah, CNN Domestic took CNNI this morning for the majority of CNN Today. Pretty good show this morning.

CNN International's coverage is a STARK contrast to CNN US's coverage. I saw the switchover yesterday morning from CNNI to CNN US... let's just say CNN Daybreak's presenter was too perky for the story, and their coverage of the event was not deep enough.

I do hope CNN US does this more often, CNNi is doing a good job.

I caught some of MSNBC and Fox News. The former was limited, to say the very least. Generally comments like 'President Bush has sent his sympathies... etc'

Fox was outstanding. ''So what about us? How would the US be prepared if something like this happened here?''

Truly remarkable that they can be so insular.

I'm confused. Why is ITV News saying 25,000 people are dead and BBC News is saying 23,000 people are dead? Thats a big difference between them!

Chinese media have qouted 28,000. Perhaps ITV News and BBC News are using different sources?

It's just a case of different estimates - for example, CNN appear to be sticking to the official estimates released by the various governments involved (giving 26,000) whereas Sky seem to be using other estimates, probably taking into account areas that cannot be properly surveyed as yet, giving their estimate of 40,000. And everyone else seems to be somewhere in between.

Either way, this is clearly a phenomenal tragedy.

Chinese media again reported very high digits. 60,000

Just wondering if BBC1 have introduced their news bulletins with the Christmas pudding idents considering ITV1 last night used the ribbons ident rather than their fairly tame Christmas ident.

Indeed. It has been so inappropriate having that ident into such a news story, especially with the sound track. I noticed they used a shutter style slide with a BBC News graphic in the top 1/3 for the 10pm update last night.

They should at least revert to the normal idents. I really can't believe the powers that be thought the ident was ever going to be suitable into the news anyway.

The BBC do have a suitable ident for the news - the one used for "Now on the BBC". All they have to do is play that and just have the details for BBC1 - much better than the dancers.

I've not seen any of the BBC coverage but am aware there hasn't been any special programmes. However, ITV's has been excellent and I'm quite suprised they had quite a few reporters around the scene so quickly.

One thing I've not seen on TV, but Australia was also hit according to our local paper, with at least six people killed.

That's six (now eight) Australians killed abroad, with several still missing, noone killed in Australia.

NBC Nightly News used Adrian Britton's report last night but he had changed the ending to say Adrian Britton, NBC News, which i thought was strange considering that Brian Williams introduced the report as coming from 'Britains ITV'. America's Network News seems to be very underfunded- wonder how many correspondents they have there today?

found this quite interesting as it's just what i was thinking-

You have to say, great as the News 24 and World coverage has been, the BBC One efforts really have been quite pathetic.

At any other time of year they would have cut into their regular schedules, had specials on One and Two on the day of the event... but heaven forbid they disrupt the Christmas schedules.

Seems a shame that they have done so much on News 24, and yet One/Two viewers have hardly seen a thing.

ITV's news bulletin has started several minutes early.

John Irvine is now fully back at work in Thailand, and Dan Rivers has also been sent to the region.
