Article on new BBC Weather graphics

The symbols are simple, clear, and visually a bit of a design classic. (Like the Tube map)

I VERY much doubt they will ditch them - just tweak them a little (maybe even render them in 3D?) They have tweaked them a little in the past during successive graphics relaunches - but the cloud icons are such a part of the BBC Weather brand they'd be mad to lose them.

They may not animate, they may not glint, they may not rotate in 3 directions at once, but they do actually serve the purpose of telling you roughly what the weather is going to do.

If the graphics systems are basically souped-up PCs then I suspect the regions may get them (they currently have souped-up Macs) It may be that the regions have to be upgraded to the new system to allow them to access the national maps and data - which I think they can do?

Oh you mean actually facts from the National Weather Services and an actual manufacter of Doppler Radar? You are suffering dillusions.

Like the fact that only American (hallelujah praise the land of the free) networks use meteorologists and all British (for it is they who still make children sweep chimneys) ones are just pretty faces.

Oh but that wasn't a fact was it, it was just more drivvel from you. Sums up your post history really doesn't it.

From the original NZ government press release in March:

Presumably it means BBC World, not BBC World Service?

Pretty pointless giving the World Service the ability to produce 3D flyover maps for television!
