Anglia was leading its saturday bulletins with the stabbing on a policewoman in Oakham, Rutland. Now I normally dont get to see the Anglia West service living in Norwich but with the new weekend pan-regional bulletins we get to hear once again whats happening in Milton Keynes, Luton, etc. But surely this is stretching the Anglia patch? I never heard of them covering a Rutland (ex-Leicestershire) story before.

I wonder if neone saw Look East to see if they were covering this.

Back in the day Anglia used to talk of covering the 9 counties of the East - im guessing this means all of , Suffolk, Cambs and Beds, plus either large or small parts of Bucks, Northants,Norfolk, Lincs, Herts and Essex. And if im really being fussy this should be 10 because of the gone but not forgotten county of Hunts.

I would have assumed that to be on the Central News east patch.

i saw this today at my mum and dads house (they get anglia west) and i had assumed there was a local connection (ie, they used to live in norfolk/suffolk/essex/cambs) but nothing. perhaps it was a slow news day in anglia.

it has to be said, the quality of the journalism on anglia news is at best mediocre, with such inspiring correspondents as matthew "thickie "hudson, dianne "the face" stradling and kate "articulate" recordon, it's no wonder really. still, got to be better than another cat stuck up a tree in kettering.

It's the furthest West I've heard them do yet. To be honest, Anglia News is rubbish. Take my parents, they are not into journalism or television presentation, so therefore they are the average viewer, and even they call it 'Poxy News'. They joke about how you will get a story of a cat up in a tree as the main bulletin with a 10 minute article about it, and then a quick side mention afterwards of someone being murdered.

A huge messup today by GMTV. At 8am during the top story headline just before the ident it cuts to Anglia News (London just switched to 14:9, I don't know about other regions). Obviously it's way too early and we got to enjoy the presenter having a chit chat with whoever was behind the camera. A few minuites in they obviously realised they were on as the DOG faded in and the presenter started reading the headlines, only to be cut back to GMTV mid-story a few seconds later (in 14:9, the same as London). As Penny Smith was reading a story, it yet again incorrectly cut to Anglia News, this time immediately realising they were on air and read the headlines as normal. After a few headlines it then finally went back to GMTV with the correct aspect ratio, rather than the 14:9 used for ITV News.

Are Anglia responsible for their own opting, or is it controlled by Leeds like Central are?

Aw God bless her. It's at times like this I'm glad I don't work in broadcast media.

By the sound of things the opt happened too early. I thought this was out of Anglia's control but I'm not 100% sure of that.

A true Anchorman moment, whatever happened.

I do love Anglia's excuse over the shameless/Seamus confusion though. Laughing

Sadly Anglia's GMTV bulletins are not on 'that place'.

Anybody captured it? Wink

It's not the first time sort of thing has happened, nor will it be the last. Here in Central, we've had Bob Warman picking his nose during the Evening News opt. Then he realises he's on, and starts his first headline just in time for the whoosh to take it back to network.

Evidently, the local gallery didn't hear the network gallery countdown to the opt!

I'd have thought the studio monitors should be set to show transmission...

That sort of thing isn't too bad, but there is no excuse to be caught out gossiping about colleagues. Aren't these newsreaders told not to say anything in a studio that they wouldn't want broadcast? It's a pretty basic rule

Maybe they do, but I think many presenters don't realise what the monitors on the set are showing them.... except that to show them what their hair looks like!

It's controlled by ITV1 in London, however during GMTV all the regions (including STV and UTV) are controlled from London due to the franchise licensing, which is why ITV1 London switched to ITV News' 14:9 pillarbox when they put Anglia on (and the other regions probably did the same). I did think about hitting the record button on my Sky+ remote to capture it, but I didn't want it to record the whole hour, and as I was rushing off to school I didn't have the time to fiddle with it.

I find it funny how it's always Anglia that gets the problems or gets it wrong. I've seen many occasions of the presenters doing their makeup and the cleaner hoovering the set during ITV News opts to Anglia News.
