He basically brought up old, unimportant news, and failed to press him on more important points. All I learnt from that interview is that I didn't like the way he interviewed.

You don't find evidence of lying and unscrupulous behaviour to be an important marker in the character of a potential Prime Minister? I can't quite see why anyone would condemn the question but not the activity of
Mr Johnston.

"He may be a liar and a philanderer, but how *dare* you ask him about it!".

In any event, Eddie prefaced his questions by saying these were incidents in his life which are brought up in the documentary which airs at 9pm tonight.

It gave Boris an opportunity to repudiate the accusations before the film is shown.

But of course he couldn't, could he.

Oh yes, because he has lied in his position as Mayor, and he's committed some unscrupulous behaviour in his Mayoral role... oh, wait, these old accusations don't relate to it whatsoever.

I'd rather he be judged on what he has and hasn't done whilst in a position of governmental power.

Do you work for/are you related to/are you Boris Johnson!?

Ew. I've gone off him now. Always said Eddie Mair was a talentless fool.

No. Boris could have been asked more important and probing questions.

From what I saw yesterday, I thought he was doing a good job at holding the fort for Andrew Marr. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up with his own TV show.

Have to agree with STV Today, our Politicians don't seem to be able to answer a question. No matter how simple it is!

If that is doing a good job then I pity what true journalism is happening in the UK!!!

Politicians today have to tow the party-whip otherwise they get booted out and as such have to meander away from answering "tricky" questions!!! To be afir there is no point asking a lowly politicians on to these shows nowaqdays as they wioll give the party-line or just not answer (the same happens on Question Time) - Boris isn't even a member of Westminster but still has to follow his parties remit!

But saying that, and as already been mentioned, what is the point of questions of things that have happened long in the past and before he became Mayor over 5 years ago???

The presenter, yet again, has shwon how quiet he is - bno probing, like from previous few weeks presenters, and gives to much to the interviewee so nothing actually gets answered and nothing new is learned or gathered.

If that's what people want in politicians being questioned then it just goes to show the malaise of politics in thsiscountry. I would gladly see hardenee fast and furious questions and politicians being probed rather than having a familiar chat! We need answers not nicey nicey!

Boris Johnson was on the show to promote the documentary airing Monday night. All the questions were about things covered in the documentary - airing now, not five years ago. And just because things happened years ago doesn't mean they're not relevent - Chris Huhne and the whole Jimmy Saville scandal being two notable examples of things which shouldn't be brushed under the carpet because they happened years ago.

And often things in the past have relevance to things happening now and in the future. In this case considering he is seen as the main challenger to David Cameron for the party leadership referencing a known time when he lied to his party leader is potentially relevent when asking about his ambitions to be Prime Minister.

He isn't the main challenger as there is no challenge to be leader of the Conservatives. When it does happen one would have to seen who the opposition is, and for all we know Boris may not be a candidate. But until then Boris is just the Mayor of London who is also a member of the Conservative Party but has no real Westminster powers, just chat. If anything he is part of popular culture, just like Nigel Farage and the Hamiltons and even Ken Livingstone. But, as you may have watched both AM and other shows he doesn't actually give an answer to the question on whether he wants to be PM or not - and wasn't pressed hard enough, therefore one has to assume, for now, that he won't be - journastically speaking.

Sophie has just said this on the 'coming up on Andrew Marr' bit on breakfast.

Great to see Andrew Marr back on TV: albeit only as a guest on the programme bearing his name.

He certainly seems to have made remarkable progress just 4 months after what he described as a major stroke, and he confirmed he will be back full time in the future.
