Although for some reason the BBC don't run Sunday AM when he is off, and prefer to have News 24 Sunday, which is also a strange title, as it's a seperate analysis programme, not an hour of rolling news

It does seem a strange choice to change names; Sunday AM was by far better. Within that title there was the fact that it was Sunday morning and presented by Andrew Marr, whereas the new title is uninteresting and simply promotes Andrew.
As others have mentioned, when Andrew isn't there it will sound silly. I remember when Peter Sissons presented Breakfast With Frost - 'this is Breakfast With Frost ... without Frost'.

There were a few weeks though last year when someone (possibly Peter Sissons) was filling in for him, possibly due to illness. I preferred the 'Sunday AM' name, to it's new name. Straying off-topic I suspect when Dead Ringers returns it'll pick up on the name change.

Yes - they do. Sunday AM ran with Huw Edwards presenting when Andrew Marr injured his foot.
However since Sunday AM launched it has not broadcast during the sumer Parliamentary recess, and has been replaced by News 24 Sunday over the summer. This isn't because Andrew isn't presenting, it is because the show isn't commissioned for a year-round slot.
