Alastair Stewart has been presenting News at ten for 30 odd years, off and on, independent seems to think he joined NaT in 89 which is hog wash, he was around doing it in 86: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8t8kx6BcM0

Of course back in the day, along with Trever, carol, Fiona, Julia, Nicloas and even Sue could appear in any ITN bulletin including ch4. many would pop up on Nat.


What a fascinating trip down memory lane that clip was. Not only featuring Alastair, Sandy Gall, Mark Austin and Charles Hodson (now of CNN), the "and finally" segment is of particular "interest"..........

Glad you like it, can any one remember Carol Turing up on Nat in the 90s? Actully did Fiona ever read on Nat at all? It could be on the same lines yes but video clips.

Yes indeed. Carol Barnes became one of the permanent presenters of News at Ten, alongside Sir AB, Sandy Gall and Alastair Stewart.

Fiona Armstrong also presented the programme, but was (if I'm not mistaken) a sub, along the lines of Charlene White and Natasha Kaplinsky today, I.e. not the primary pool but stand-in when one was required.

I believe Juile was also a permanent presenter on NaT at that time. In 1992 both Alastair Stewart and Fiona jumped ship to presenter the news for the new ITV franchise.

One has to wonder did there decided leave before or after ITN shake up of its news service to single presenter.

No. Julie (Etchingham) was nowhere near News at Ten in the 1990's. If you mean Julia Somerville, then yes, she joined the programme in the early nineties and presented alongside Sandy, the Alastairs and Trevor McDonald. When News at Ten became single headed, Julia became Trevor's stand-in and also presented a special strand, which was short lived though.

Alastair Stewart stayed at ITN until 1993, when he went over to the London News Network, which was taken over by ITN in 2004.

Fiona used to present Border Lookaround, before moving to the BBC News Channel. Not sure if she joined Border straight after leaving GMTV after the decision to move away from the 'F Factor' pairing of her and Michael Wilson.

I thought she went to BBC World for a brief period then going onto to Border...

She returned to Border in 1998 or thereabouts. I believe she took some time out aswell, as her daughter will have been young at the time. She also wrote a number of books, too.
