Indeed. Reporters Without Borders cites "158 journalists and media assistants killed since the start of fighting in Iraq in March 2003, two still missing, 12 are kidnapped." In terms of British media victims you can certainly add Gaby Rado (Channel 4 News) and Hussein Othman and Frédéric Nérac (ITV News). The reality of the death toll in Iraq - and not just for media outlets - really is astonishing.
The Reporters Sans Frontieres website has an interesting list of journalists and colleagues that have been killed and imprisoned over the last few years: http://www.rsf.org/rubrique.php3?id_rubrique=113

The Palestinian security forces know what they have to do to secure the release of abducted BBC correspondent Alan Johnston, the Palestinian deputy prime minister has said.
Azzam al-Ahmad made the comments during a meeting with members of the European Parliament in the West Bank city of Ramallah, according to members of the 12-strong delegation.
Mr al-Ahmad also confirmed to them that the Gaza City correspondent, who was seized by armed gunmen on March 12, is still alive.
There has been no direct information on Johnston's fate since he was abducted, with a claim he had been killed unable to be verified.
British MEP Caroline Lucas told the BBC the delegation had sought assurances from the Palestinian representatives.
"We can only go on what we're being told, but certainly it seems to be a very high political priority for them," she said.
"I think they recognise, as we all do, that it's doing the Palestinian Authority absolutely no good at all to have Alan Johnston still in captivity.
"They do appear to be doing all they can, and we seem to be getting confirmation that he's alive, so I think all we can do is to keep the political pressure high."

Sounds like good news.

This is a total and utter nightmare. The Gaza strip is slowly descending into chaos, Alan Johnston is still missing with no more news. A horrible chain of events which doesn't look to be improving in the near future.
Whoever is holding Alan, please do the right thing for everyone and release him.
