So did News 24 go their own way from 6am to 8.30am this morning? They were certainly on their own at 8.10am.

Nope, it was Breakfast on N24 this morning.

Not all morning it weren't - I switched on at 8.10 and N24 were on their own.

Sorry, should have made a bit clearer - it was on at 6.30am this morning. Unaware what time they switched over.

OK, ta.

What matters more is that he's free - fantastic news.

When I heard it on Radio 4 this morning there was a noticable pause after the pips then Jim Naughtie said, with a spring in his voice, "It's 8 o'clock on Wednesday the 4th of July. The BBC correspondent Alan Johnson, held in captivity for...." and it seemed like each word took minutes to get out before he said, "...has been freed".

Such wonderful news to wake up to today. I think after the past week we've been overdue some good news.

Yay!

Absolutely fantastic news. Just caught the 11.00 TOTH, and was overjoyed at the news. Very pleased for Alan and his family. It must be a huge relief to Alan, his family, friends and colleagues, and all those who have been touched by these events.

Martine Croxall was presenting on BBC News when the story broke, don't know who was presenting on Sky. Could be Jonas Hurst if recent nights are anything to go by.

I'm delighted that Alan has been released btw. I wish him and his family well in the future.

I believe it was in fact Sangeeta Kandola who broke the news on Sky News.

Thank you for clearing that up.

Martine was on 1 - 6 overnight and handled it very well despite the obvious emotion, she was supported in the studio by Paul Adams and Gaza Producer Tamar Al Misha, who translated the Arabic news conferences live. The 5 oclok just continued the simulcast from N8 with a World presenter, I don't know who, joining Martine.
