3.20pm: A BBC TV reporter is understood to have been kidnapped in Gaza. More follows ...

Edit: Named as Alan Johnston. Link. Can't say I'm too familiar with him - is he actually a TV journalist, or from radio?

There are (understandably) no names as of yet, but there are further details here and here.

Edit: It appears to be Alan Johnston

That name rings a bell. I think he's on BBC World News quite a bit reporting from Israel/Gaza.

Reported extensively during the Lebanon/Israel conflict last summer I think. It's Alan Johnston e .

Hope he's OK.

BBC News 24 now reporting that they have not been able to contact him, and are concerned for his safety, and also reporting other news agency reports that he has been kidnapped.

Very sober coverage, no breaking news graphics.

Hope he's OK - my thoughts go to him, his family and colleagues.

Incidents like these show what a dangerous job these reporters do, hoping he will be found safe and well.

I hope he's ok.. hope he hasn't been kidnapped, it would be very bad if he had... journalists do not deserve that kind of treatment due to them being political neutral in this area.

Not according to any of the BBC coverage. Not that it matters hugely... Let's just hope he's okay.

BBC Staff will be holding a vigil for Alan at 2pm Monday afternoon, in order to mark 1 week since his disappearance. Staff will gather outside Bush House, home of the World Service, and outside Television Centre, home of BBC World.

The vigil will be shown on BBC World and BBC News24

Oh I wish I could be there. Could someone please capture the coverage of this? It would be such a shame if it were to just disappear from the airwaves.
