AJA was (originally) staffed by many disgruntled ex BBC Arabic service employees !

Disgruntled? I think you mean redundant... When the Saudi owners of Orbit TV (which carried the original BBC World Service Arabic TV channel in the mid-90s) tried to exert a little editorial control, the BBC pulled the plug on the service, and left a lot of BBC-trained Arabic-speaking presenters, reporters, production journalists and technical staff without jobs... Perfect staff for a new Arabic news channel...

Ah yes ! Fair point, I remember now. Having been made redundant myself though, it is still a disgruntling experience ! Cool

And remember that the BBC Arabic ex-staff could be perfectly described as 'disgruntled' in this context. They were ultimately made redundant because of a political move by Saudi. Many joined Al Jazeera, which is now facing closure as a result of yet another political move by Saudi.

If you are talking about Al Jazeera English - then wow. Just wow.

AJE is pretty journalistically sound - with a strong rosta of trustworthy presenters, producers, reporters etc.

RT? Definitely not. Working there is close to writing a resignation letter for your career in TV News.

Yes, they are well respected and have a reputation for quality journalism. You don't find the likes of RT publishing their code of ethics online: http://www.aljazeera.com/aboutus/2006/11/2008525185733692771.html

AJE, at least at launch, was largely staffed and managed by former employees of UK-based news organisations. There was a bit of an exodus from companies like ITN, Sky and APTN (less so the BBC) in the run up to its launch so is very British both in terms of style and journalism.

Indeed. Liz Wahl and Sara Firth made high profile resignations and they didn't get a high profile gig afterwards. Firth is freelancing at TRT World.

Interestingly, BBC's Alice Baxter worked as a presenter for RT "for over six years":

Bryony MacKenzie (as Bryony Mansfield) also worked for RT and ended up on South East Today. I don't remember Alice on Putin's propaganda outlet though.

Ouch. That's like trusting Breitbart over BBC World News

Or the Daily Sport. Laughing

The whole statement in itself is oxymoronic. AJE is almost entirely internationally venerated, whereas RT smacks of being a mouthpiece for the Kremlin.
