Before this thread goes down with more snipey comments about one another, let's go back to what the thread is about!
My view is that we do need to see more "oldies" fronting the news.
Balance it out "oldies" with the younger ones and viewers will probably be indifferent about this.
For example, BBC1 weekdays - their lunchtime news is done by Sophie Raworth, their early evening news is George Alagiah and their late news is Huw Edwards [I suppose with Alagiah, he is in his 50s] but none of these have the gravitas to bring to a bulletin.
Peter Sissons is shunted off to a news channel. So is Chris Lowe. and they don't seem to have any women 50+.
On ITV, it's only really Alastair Stewart who looks the oldest.
Channel 4 has the right balance, I must say - Jon Snow, Sue Turton etc. alongside Carl Dinnen and Sarah Smith is a good mixture.
