Selina Scott is having a "go" at Sky News. She maintains she was dropped at the last moment after already being offered a role as presenter of Five News, standing-in for pregnant Natasha Kaplinsky.

Now that Moira has been shown the door, and Selina has had her entry keys taken away, I wonder if we will ever see ladies of a certain age presenting the news????????????

I would - personally - far prefer the voice of authority over beauty and youth. (That's not to say that all three can't be found in same candidate, however).

I don't want to make presumptions about your personal life, but some men prefer their news (and lots of other things) delivery by young tottie. Provided their news, entertainment or meal is delivered as it should be, they would prefer to see a young thing delivering it.

Yes, its a sad state of affairs but that's the way the world turns.

Besides, as Victoria Wood sang, "I could be too cold, I could be too hot, I could be permanently knackered like Selina Scott, I could!"

So, its not just the men folk who feel that way.

I don't see the difference beetwen this woman and Kaplinski except the fact that Selina looks like a nice person too. Cool

The main difference is that one is an old has-been that desperately needs to understand that she's had her day, and high definition recordings are appallingly unflattering to sagging skin and crow's feet.

I'm a big fan of good-looking young 'uns reading the news.
I mean, just how much authority do you need to read an autocue ?
The trouble, as far as I can see, is that Sky seem to hoover up all the
hotties with half a brain cell - leaving local regional news with all
the munters and geriatrics.
And don't get me started on the gurners who do the weather ...

Yep - but HD isn't relevant is it?

I don't think any of the UK News Channels have HD on the close horizon... Sky's new location cameras may allow them to trial it when they get them - but their studio cameras are SD.

Unless Selina was thinking of working for a US broadcaster or Al Jazeera English (who are HD internally) then HD-ness isn't an issue.

Interesting that in the US this is less of an issue. Barbara Walters and Diane Sawyer are older women still presenting News and Current Affairs stuff - and in HD (albeit through a fog of soft lighting and skin detail processing)

Its not Selina who has said anything about HD. She's just putting her lack of work down to being an older woman.

Of course, it would have nothing to do with her rather barbed comments about certain ex-employers, would it?

Oh no.

Didn't Selina annoy a certain American business mogul with a TV documentary a few years ago? I seem to remember he promised her she would never work in TV again.

A man of his word, it seems.

There's been a slew of stories like this revolving around Ms Scott. Whether true or not I couldn't possibly say.
