Not reallly - different platforms with different audience profiles. Quite a number of channels are FTA on Freeview (UK History, Dave, E4, FilmFour etc) but have been subscription (and remain to be in most/all cases) on satellite.
The number of FTA/FTV satellite viewers is pretty low - and dwarfed by the number of Freeview viewers - so the income from subscription on satellite is worthwhile compared to the ad revenue from FTA/FTV viewers who can't currently see the service.
Obviously a different equation exists on Freeview - where the FTA viewers outnumber the subscription (aka TUTV and Setanta) audience.
So will this spell the end of World News with Charles Gibson on BBC News 24
Don't see why it would... ABC and the BBC are still global news partners - and ABC News Now isn't a competitor to BBC News 24 is it?
ABC World News with Charles Gibson does not air on ABC News Now, but the World News Webcast does, which is produced by the same team, but airs 3.5 hours earlier than the World News broadcast.
ABC News Now does air some reports from the BBC, particularly in their World View programme.

Yep - and the BBC have used ABC News Now facilities AIUI. The newsroom camera position they use has been used for lives from ABC correspondents on the BBC before now.
