ABC News Now will launch in the UK next year.

In the US, the 24-hour news channel goes out on broadband, digital satellite and digital cable. Today, Disney-ABC International Television announced that it will launch in Germany, Spain and Belgium on IPTV service Zattoo "with plans to reach additional countries, including the United
Kingdom, in the next six months".

Instead of offering rolling news coverage, ABC News Now delivers a headline roundup every half hour and longer specialist news programmes ranging from World Piece, where a single international news story is featured, to What's the Buzz, an entertainment news roundup. Pre-recorded programming is interrupted by breaking news coverage as warranted.

ABC's pres is actually one of the nicer sets across the pond - however, I would expect ABC News Now to adopt some more conservative graphics for the European market, like CNN.

Does anyone think that it might be because they can't view it?

Isn't it just a simulcast though?

Someone mentioned ABC1 - and Disney still have a 12-hour daytime slot on Freeview, so could it crop up on Freeview in the short-term at least?

The CNN received in the UK is CNN International, CNN's equivalent of BBC World. Granted, it does cover more domestic news than BBC World does, but mostly with an international slant. By saying to people in the UK watch CNN for US news, you're effectively telling people in Australia to watch BBC World for British news. You know how much more detail BBC News 24 goes into for domestic news than BBC World. For those wanting solely domestic US news there is only Fox News (apart from the network bulletins, but they're only on late at night). That isn't much choice for the viewer. I wholeheartedly welcome the arrival of another US news network.

Isn't ABC News a broadband / IPTV service that you watch on a PC rather than a broadcast TV service that you can easily watch on a TV?

Whilst video on a PC has got a lot better of late - and is useful in the office - I won't be watching stuff that I can't see in quality (or at least something approaching SD) on my living room TV - it just won't be part of my viewing, as it won't be easily view-able on my TV.

As I understand it, it's both - broadcast on PC, Cable and on your mobile.

I suspect that any service that would launch here in the UK would be offered via services like BT Vision.

So will this spell the end of World News with Charles Gibson on BBC News 24

'Course ABC is run by Disney so I won't be suprised if its a pay channel.
