In my view, the renaming doesn't really pass the common-sense test. "People think of us as ABC News however they access us" is fine enough, but that doesn't mean that there isn't any difference in the services being offered. News 24 is something separate from the 7pm local news which is different again from radio services or what you read online.
Of course they're all different - they're different platforms, but it'll largely be the same content generated in the same newsrooms. Why label it differently?
It is the same as the BBC did a few years ago - no-one gets confused or even cares that their website, TV channel, phone app or radio news service are all branded the same. It's just more coherent

In terms of the graphics, it's quite strange that they only put the reporter's Twitter handle in the straps.
The typeface is... not great. I know it's a custom design, but it doesn't work for me. In particular, the weather graphics when shown on screen are not easy to read - looks fuzzy to me. I suspect that owes to the lack of HD production (my eyes are just fine!).
I don't dislike the package overall - but I'm not wild about it either. I think it's a modest improvement, but I suspect this package will date more quickly than what it's replaced.
Although, they have been in 720p HD before. Off topic, but what I've read on Mediaspy about ABC having its main channel in HD last year (again, but in MPEG4) is that ABC lacks programming made in native HD when they launched. Then they slowly have programming in native HD.

Well it is better than not having regional news in HD (BBC One HD, I'm referring to).
