ABC News is revamping on Monday, with ABC News 24 becoming ABC News and ABC Newsradio becoming ABC News as well. That won't be confusing at all. ABC News Breakfast becomes News Breakfast.

The current graphics for ABC News have served the service well for the last 6 years and amongst the best news branding around, so the replacement look has a lot to live up to.

Logo alone looks like someones mock ideas from this forum, leaves a lot to be desired.

Why would it be confusing? I'm sure Australians can tell the difference between telly and radio without needing different names for different platforms.

In my view, the renaming doesn't really pass the common-sense test. "People think of us as ABC News however they access us" is fine enough, but that doesn't mean that there isn't any difference in the services being offered. News 24 is something separate from the 7pm local news which is different again from radio services or what you read online. It feels to me like letting branding hype overtake reality by suggesting that all the separate names should be scrapped in favour of only using the "ABC News" brand. It's not like there was any confusion (as far as I'm aware) that ABC News 24, ABC Newsradio, ABC's flagship news bulletins etc. are all ABC products.

That said, I think collapsing the social media accounts into core "ABC News" channels is entirely sensible. I end up following multiple accounts because they sometimes post different things - but other times just post the same things across all accounts.

A brief clip of the old look - she doesn't quite style it out in the way BBC newsreaders manage it.

And the live stream - new look should launch shortly.

Just watched a couple of minutes of that livestream and the flicker or whatever it is has a very irritating and distracting animation of a blue stripe wiping up and revealing the next story. Kept catching my eye away from the actual content.

Interesting to see the state bulletins adapt to the new look. The flipper bugs me though, it's illegible to read.

I like this new look. The graphics really give power to the image. This reminds me of the brilliant CNN International revamps a few years back when they used the black and white look and small bars of colour. I think the combined banding is a good idea. Now if only they can get new sets. IMO Australia doesnt have a good set track record. The new Nine News sets that have been rolling out recently are a good start. But I like they have stripped away the lettermark ABC and simply relaying on the logo and word NEWS. Reinforces the logo and the brand overall.
