Can I be first to ask the question, why the simulcast between One/Two & the News Channel?

It must be money/budgets as reception of One & Two should not be an issue!

There shouldn't be any difference between the two apart from presentation & the rolling news ticker!

I guess because the events are of huge national and international importance, and many will be wanting to watch them to commemorate.

I still think it's a bit odd - despite it's significance not everyone will want to watch. They wouldn't be putting it on BBC Three/Four/CBBC/Cbeebies, that's for sure!

I guess some would criticise if they didn't though. I see no problem in it really.

Theres an expectation I suppose that the main BBC channels still cover significant events live. The budget, State Opening of Parliament etc. The Queens visit to Ireland got a BBC2 simulcast earlier this year, and Obama's parliament speech was deemed important enough for BBC1.

The BBC also probably believe they should try to attract an audience who wouldn't normally watch the news channel for the 9/11 anniversary ceremonies

And the people who still only have analogue of course.

Jon Sopel will be presenting tomorrow's Five Oclock News Hour live from Ground Zero. Simulcast with The Hub on BBC World. Karin Giannone will be at The Hub in London.

I'd never actually seen that original News 24 coverage, Marcus. Only now, ten years on, do I realise that it was actually John Terrett, Valerie Sanderson and John Nicolson breaking the story.

Very numbing and chilling to watch actually, even although we know what's going to happen.

For how it felt in the TVC Newsroom that morning:-

I once got chatting to someone who claimed he was the person in the newsroom who first spotted the feed of the fire coming in to the BBC newsroom. One of the outside lines into news was/is permanently a feed from New York and it just appeared on there, presumably from ABC. It was just put to air before anyone really knew what had happened
