When the Six O'Clock News relaunched in 1984, a common staple in the title sequence was the voice of God; always announcing at the start of the titles "The Six O'Clock News, from the BBC". Does anyone here know, who actually voiced this? It doesn't sound like a BBC announcer of the time; and if you need a clip reference, here: http://www.tv-ark.org.uk/mivana/mediaplayer.php?id=3e9d55c0f38814eb8360c5bfdd670d81&media=sixoclocknews_1989&type=mp4

(If that doesn't work, it's called "The Six O'clock News 1989 / 1987" on: http://www2.tv-ark.org.uk/news/bbcnews/evening.html

I don't know who is he. Anyway, is the "This is *** News, with John Doe and Jill Doe" thing came from the US?

I think it's Patrick Lunt, at the time a Radio 2 announcer/newsreader.

Mr. Coolcat is correct. It is indeed Patrick Lunt, who was a newsreader and announcer on Radio 2. He was also famously known for being married to BBC Newscaster, Jan Leeming, with whom they have a son.

I loved that era of the BBC Six news. Never missed a bulletin. It was straighforward, no nonsense news, very much the domain of Ms Lawley.

Yes it was indeed Patrick Lunt. I loved his voice announcing the newsreaders. The current ITV News announcer just doesn't have the same impact.

Agreed, although I think the entire team of presenters back then was top notch - Nicholas Witchell, Anna Ford etc.
