Sorry, you're all wrong.

The first plane went in at about 8.45EST (1.45 UK) and CNN were reporting it at 8.48am.

From memory, NBC mentioned ''a breaking story'' on the Today show at 8.50 but technical problems meant they couldn't go to it. They returned at 8.53 with the report.

ABC broke into Good Morning America with a special report at 8.51 and CBS at 8.52. Sky broke it at 8.52ET (1.52 UK).

There was a website where you could watch all of the coverage - from the early moring of 9/11, to the next few days, - from all of the channels. That appears to exist no longer.

I imagine the BBC would have broken into programme regardless of weather or not a second plane hit. They were just waiting for Neighbours to finish, I think. I remember watching at the time and it was pretty clear that it wasn't some tiny little plane that had crashed.

All becomes clear, Thanks Cat.

I seem to remember that site, with caps of pretty much every TV channels coverage of it. Missing you say, I'll have to have a look around...

BBC1 did start showing it before the second plane. By sheer co-incidence the plane hit the tower during the BBC1 newsflash and they stayed with it from there.

Before the second plane the story was essentially just a plane crash and fire at a well known building. I suspect that if there were no pictures of the fire avaliable, BBC1 wouldn't have gone to a newsflash. AIUI it was an observant technical operator at News 24 that noticed the pictures coming in on the fixed line from New York.... it was sheer luck that they got their pictures on so early considering the distance involved.

Makes me wonder how quickly we would get live pictures if something of a similar magnitude happened in London. The news crews ccertainly had no reason to have a camera pointing at the WTC that morning, but within 10 minutes there were at least 3 live shots. We probably saw pictures of it on the iother side of the world than we would if it was in Central London

It's 25 years since CNN launched... special programmes on CNN at 2pm and 8pm on Wednesday called Defining Moments....

Tonight's programme at 8pm didn't happen... even though the EPG had it listed...
I guess they forgot about the Dutch Euro poll result when they did their schedules!
Anyway... for those interested the special programme looking at 25 years of CNN is now on tonight at 11pm UK time.

Does anyone know who is replacing Tumi Makghabo on CNNI's Your World Today and World News??

I was sad to see her departing from CNN the other evening - it was quite an emotional wrap that the production staff put together, showing her best bits from over the years at CNN. In fact, she and co-anchor Michael Holmes were visibly upset and teary-eyed at the end, and finished it off by hugging as the bulletin closed.......

Tumi was an excellent broadcaster and a very credible and capable anchor. I, for one, will miss her at CNN.

I expect that Hala Gorani will take over. She is also good.

Hi James, yes it's sad to see Tumi leaving - she is one of the anchors I enjoy watching whenever I am abroad. Do you know where she is leaving to go to?

She has gone home to South Africa with her husband and three children. She will take up a television role there. Not sure which organisation she is joining though.

Cheers,
James
