Also does anyone know the track in the BBC Election Promo? It's on so often it's now stuck in my head.

I found a dodgy recording of the promo on YouTube (which had some sort of echo on the audio so it sounded a bit mangled) and Siri concluded it was 'Walk' by Kwabs. I assumed this was incorrect but looking it up Siri does seem to have got it right! Obviously the BBC have been using the instrumental or something but this is it:

On a completely different subject regarding election coverage, I seem to remember reading somewhere that on one election night in the 80s (possibly 1987?) ITN had live images from Thatcher's car showing her as she arrived in Finchley etc. She had a curtain which she could place over the camera if she wanted privacy. Does anyone have anymore information on this?

There's a piece about that from the BBC's 1997 documentary about election night coverage, Swing Time. There isn't anything said about a curtain though.

Ah thanks. I'm pretty sure it was in the brilliant News At Ten book which was published in 1999. She was provided with a cloth that she could put over the camera if needed, but she didn't.

There are two versions of the Kwabs track being used - an electric and an acoustic one. I think the acoustic one was specially commissioned.

Some points from http://www.theguardian.com/media/2015/may/04/television-election-coverage-emily-maitlis-bbc-sky-itv - possibly all already known, apologies if so.

Alastair Stewart takes over from 9.25am on ITV

No adverts during ITV coverage

Huw Edwards takes over in the morning for the BBC, with Dimbleby doing a special Question Time on Friday

Emily's touchscreen is 6 metres - the article says it uses lasers and required development of a new technology, without going into any detail.

Sophie Raworth will be building a virtual map at an "undisclosed central London location" which is presumably Broadcasting House given those photos of the projection tests

BBC is using 45 OB trucks, some shipped in from Portugal, Lithuania and Macedonia

Dermot Murnaghan takes over from Adam Boulton around 7am

CNN have an election double decker, from which Richard Quest will be getting opinions, etc whilst Christiane Amanpour and Max Foster host.

Does this mean the BBC might ship outs it's share on truck to other broadcasters?

I have literally no idea what you are asking.

On a completely different topic, somebody I know (of) is loaning/renting their audio production truck to the BBC (presumably radio) for VE Day coverage, so stretched are they by the election and VE Day at the same time.

Some BBC trucks are involved in providing various pool feeds (mainly from the election counts for the main party leaders), but I think that's about the extent of it. Other broadcasters are using their own trucks, plus some ITV regional trucks and Globecast as well I think.

IF OB trucks, are shipped in from Portugal, Lithuania and Macedonia, will the BBC return the favour at some point and ship some over to them.

I very much doubt it is a favour, they'll just be hiring them from companies in those countries. As to the opposite happening, well the BBC doesn't have it's own OB Facilities arm any more, although I'm sure they'll happily hire out the few trucks they do own when they're not being used by themselves. For big events in the UK it's just as common for trucks to come over here as it is for British trucks to go over to the continent to cover big events there.
