Interesting all these debates have been carried by the ebu I haven't seen these from other European countries so maybe these debates is a UK thing?
It's pretty standard for big news events to go on the EBU News Events channel.

From what I remember, EBU took the BBC's programme on the NE last year, while also offering a clean version of ITN's international feed on a second line?

Exactly what Channel 4 are there to do . . . provide an alternative.

If they bring out the 'big guns' like Googlebox (can't believe I said that) pretty early in the night, this could do very well.

Particularly considering the period between 10pm and midnight when results are scarce can be quite dull for non-politicos. If there's plenty to interest the masses in that period, they might be able to hold onto a chunk of viewers if they're also able to provide a credible results/analysis service - which seems to be the case.

Looking good from the outset.

I expect that this will outperform ITV on the night again. As the bulk of the audience gravitate to the BBC, ITV will get squeezed.

The problem with the last alternative election night, and BBC 2's Election Night Armistice in 97, was it ended just as things were kicking off. Also, is anyone else starting to find David Mitchell grating now?

ooh, I can't remember. And I was on shift on ICR that night too. Managed to sneak the 2001 BBC Parliament 15 minute megamix out over a holding caption before the start of the BBC programme on the NE channel (as well as that XX track they were using for trailers).
Also, the chap in Geneva asked if we could transmit on another channel with the feed from the regions. "Which one? We have 37!"

As things kick off though most people go to bed, and by ending there they're keeping the cost of running a full election programme down.

Not too sure what I think about this - Paxman is a coup but is he a necessary one. I'd personally rather have a Last Leg special on the night I think.

I think next Tuesday might be the first time a UTV production has appeared on network ITV this century.

Actually the network hasn't shown the Scottish or Welsh election debates, so why Northern Ireland gets the honour I'm not sure. But seemingly it is.

Maybe because there was no Northern Ireland representation on the ITV Leaders' Debate a few weeks ago?
