As much as I hate siding with David Cameron his point is valid here, though PR wise it's not wise to be seen to be wimping out. People forget too these debates only started last time around (and already the format has been completely rejigged) so if they weren't to happen they'd be no loss.
Just reminds me of that Spitting Image Election coverage sketch, where ITN are just waiting for the BBC to bring the result in.
It seems an incredibly odd subject to have a 'bitchfight' over given a lot of news coverage is 'learned' from watching other broadcasters/reading newspapers. It's fairly common for broadcasters to set the running orders based on the mornings newspaper frontpages, not to mention the amount copied from newswire. Plus I assume at ITN they have the BBC News channel and Sky on screens in the Gallery and Newsroom just as the BBC has access to ITV and Sky feeds. I expect the ITV business/economics editors may have 'learned' stuff from Robert Peston's scoops in the financial crisis. A story is a story and nearly every story gets reported within an hour or so across nearly every news outlet so it is basically just a tit-for-tat argument.

Excluding any BBC tweets I notice.
So these two are not from the BBC?

It was interesting to see this develop this afternoon, notable that all the major contributors are silent on Twitter tonight. Turned quite nasty at one stage, with others coming on board with anti-BBC tweets.
Yes it was broken by Tom Bradby, but are ITN and it's staff expecting an attribution for a story. It simply isn't done
either way
. The story once in the wild really is fair game once verified.
I expected better from one of the protagonists too.
Bradby spoilt his own exclusive by tweeting about it really. Should have let the BBC and Sky pick it up from the interview being broadcast (I assume it was) on the 6:30.

Bradby makes it look like it was some incredible scoop he unearthed and it was now being nicked by everyone else. He just so happened to interview Cameron on the day Ofcom made its ruling about the Greens. It wasn't exactly a case of brilliant investigative journalism. Cameron made similar comments on Granada Reports and Northwest Tonight.
