I notice from the clips they're showing that the on-screen clock was a 12 hour one when it first launched? When did it change to a 24 hour one? I don't think it was long, within the first year.

On a more serious note, the preface countdown played and when it hit 17:30, flags played away. A montage of the opening minutes and Huw interviewed the BBC Director-General (the man who then thought of the idea), Lord Tony Hall.
