I wonder if they'll edit out the bit where they missed the first result? Hee hee.

They showed it unedited (I presume), and very amusing it was too, with Dimbleby chatting to Kate Adie in Torbay while they completely missed the first announcement from Sunderland South!

That was good with Rory Bremner in Manchester playing David Frost claiming that TV-am would have the Results and Kool and The Gang's Newest Video on in the morning. Laughing

Quite interesting to watch indeed.

I think I once read on TV Forum that this was the election where there were a variety of ages of Astons in use, so in order to have consistent location bugs, they went with the lowest common denominator that would work on them all: hence absolutely massive graphics.

And he was stood in front of Manchester Town Hall which was heavily decorated with banners promoting the city's bid to host the 2000 Olympic Games!

What an utterly fab swingometer, much better than the virtual ones now. I'll miss Peter Snow at the election in May.

Shadow Trade & Industry Spokesman Gordon Brown declared confidently: "The Conservatives have lost this election". Oh dear.

Do the results graphics remind anyone else of the current News 24 headline graphics? The way they animate on is practically identical.

I think it also had something to do with ease of identifying where the pics are coming from - to make it very obvious to everyone involved where they are coming from. I think that at that time they were put on at source so that as they passed through the BBC hubs and onto TV centre there could be no confusion as to where it was from.

The 1997 election did the same, and I don't remember seeing any clips without the big locators which I suspect means that few clean recordings were made.

Certainly at the last election everything was coming in clean
