Yes, I know you hate Studio Recreations. And I know that this neither has the correct dimensions or is entirely accurate but I though that I'd upload them and see what you think. I've primarily used them to see what it might look like if they use the BBC World News Programs in.

STUDIO A So far I have only made Newswatch.
*
STUDIO B I made this around Some Random Stuff's Floor Diagram. So far I have made Newsnight, The Andrew Marr Show - I know the furniture is right and Sunday Politics which I know is quite poor.
* *
* *
* *
* I have also had a go at making some BBC World News ideas for when they use Studio B. So far here is GMT, Impact, WBR and BBC World News.
* *
* *
*
*
STUDIO C I made this based on the few pictures we have seen of Studio C - I have made a few versions - Newsroom Backdrop (I didn't have a good enough photo of the Main Newsroom), London Backdrop or Newsday.
*
* *
*
*
STUDIO E Due to the small amount of Photos we have seen I haven't done Studio E yet.
TELEVISION CENTRE
Yes I know that it says W1 but thanks to your comments I have been working on TC7, N6 and N8. TC7 - I started from scratch basically using every resource photo had. N6 - I have just reworked the original Studio - Edited the Desk, edited the baking tray. SORRY about the Backdrop. N8 I started again from scratch, I mainly worked on the Newsroom trying to actually make it look accurate. I also have done a 2003 Version.

Yes I do absolutely hate studio/set design mocks. They never look at all visually pleasing, the mocker usually plucks the dimensions out of Magical Pixie Land and they are never rendered. Top that off with an obvious complete and total lack of effort and you can probably understand why they rile me so much.

When i first saw this my reaction was quite unfairly... GROAN. You have put in quite a lot of effort to get this looking visually quite good.

You're Studio A & B models looks visually accurate, but there are a few places where you could improve them. Studio C isnt as good, and understandably as we've hardly seen anything at all from it, and N8 is a massive improvement on your last mock.

If you removed all the angular edges put in some better and reflective textures where applicable and lit these from multiple sources i think this would massively improve the mock.

Nobody is ever going to get 5-stars for a studio mock from me until they can provide accurate dimensions... think of it as the Studio Mock version of Safe Areas.

DTV, You're showing a lot of promise, and i hope we are going to see some amazing things from you in the future.

Looks good so far, as SRS said, A&B look good but can be imporved. To remove angular edges, right click on the outline of the shape and click 'Entity Info' and change the value of 'Number of Segments' to something over 240 and you should get a smooth object!

The NBH studios are looking good - well done on on those. There are always improvements to be made though so try and look at pictures and look at the studio on-air to see if you can spot any imperfections, there will be some. I made my N6 Sketchup model about 2 years ago and I'm still improving minor bits on it, they all add up.

The TC7 looks good too. N6 not so good because the size of it is miles off, the desk isn't very realistic either. N8 looks better than last time but it's always going to be difficult to get realistic because there's so much detail in the newsroom that really can't be matched in Sketchup.

EDIT: I'd love to take a look at the Sketchup file for the Studio C mock if you'd send it me in a PM - just out of curiosity I can look at how it's all put together. It's totally up to you of course. I'd be happy to send you my N6 file to take a look at in return if that's what you want.

This is the plucking numbers out of the air method.

The number of segments should be varied depending on the size of the object you are creating. If you're modelling a 25m wide curve, 240 segments might not be enough. Likewise, if you're making a T-bar for a vision mixer that will only be seen in the background, 6 is probably sufficient.

For performance reasons, you want as few points in a 3D model as you can afford without affecting the end result.

Usually a circle/oval comes as 24 segments, making it 240 makes it smooth enough.

As I said, it entirely depends on how big the object and the amount of detail needed. 240 is just a number you've made up. If it was the optimal value, why would there be the option to change it?

This "SketchUp Sage" may help DanielK understand...

I was dreading looking at this mock, based on your previous work, and bar the N6/TC7 studios, which remain to be dreadful, I'm actually quite impressed. I'd agree that it isn't curved, and in your Studio A mock, the desk looks quite bad as a result of the lack of curves. However, they look mostly right, and apart from fog covering most of one of the Newsnight shots, it's good.

Thanks for the Comments so far, I'll get round to sorting out the curves shortly, meanwhile I figured that with the new national sets, new Regional Sets will be around the corner, so based on elements from Studio A, B and C I have created what it could look like in Scotland. The Floor Area for Studio is 180m^2 so I used the Studio as 12x15m.
Hope you like it.

SORRY ABOUT THE LACK OF CURVES!

Personally, for the BBC World News Ideas - I that GMT isn't as pink as that or Newsday that Yellow.

I think a sensible thing to be looking at is rendering your designs, as it adds a nice polish. In general, I quite like your Reporting Scotland studio too, however, it is flawed, I think.

I've been doing my own RS Mock for a while, too, and always say I'll post it, and never get round to doing so. Whilst creating it, I was told that there's a large lane running alongside one side of the studio, which takes out space. And then, usually you need clearance behind your set for maintenance or fire safety - however, this doesn't seem to be the case in N6, so you might be able to disregard this. I don't think there would be enough space in Studio C for these sets to fit.

EDIT: Actually, I've looked it again, and don't rate it as much as I did on my initial viewing. I think the happiness that there was a good SketchUp mock in the Gallery skewed my judgement. I think it's safe to say a lot less effort was put into this studio, especially as it was one in a day. A lot of things are just reused, and there's too much blue.

Look... I designed an imaginary news studio too...
*

Agree with a lot of what Critique has said.

Mocks are designs. Designers have to design to real world perameters. Whether that be A4 Landscape Three-Fold Leaflet or 16:9 1080p TV Safe Areas or 18m x 16m Studio with 4m clearance.

If your going to just pull imaginary studio dimensions out of the air you may as well film Reporting Scotland in the basement of your gumdrop-house down Candystick Lane.

Please improve upon your BH and N8 mocks and leave the silly imaginary stuff alone until you can find some studio designer templates as seen here... http://www.bbcstudiosandpostproduction.com/studios/cad_plans.html
TC7 is sure to pop up on that page in the next few months so anyone wanting to mock the current BBC News studio could probably do a millemetre accurate one if they can find the Barco Screen dimensions.
