Refreshing the UTV brand for 2012 (December 2011)

Since getting Sky installed I have been watching a lot more of the infamous UTV. I really enjoy watching the channel as its one of the two surviving ITV Regions and I always wonder if the likes of Tyne Tees TV would look the same if that was still around. There are however, a few faults with the channel in my opinion. For one, the logo has aged quite badly. If you take a look at STV's logo you see a perfect logo for television which is one single colour which means it can be adapted well to special features such as Text Santa, however UTV have to create a monotone logo for the promotional material which can be found in Asda branches around the UK. I have created a few new presentational elements which I feel would suit the channel more and would help the whole brand 'UTV' move into 2012. Gone is the multi-coloured logo and in comes a plain white version (which can be printed as black or white) and a new colour scheme which matches ITV's presentational elements more eg, the black background (meaning when ITV take over the channel for payback it doesn't stick out too much from the channel branding). Anyways enough of me rambling on, here are the ideas :

We start with a basic Coronation Street trail with a small non-obtrusive UTV logo fading on screen:

*

Then we are greeted with the new promotional end-board design which uses the new UTV colour scheme:

*

A website trail is next incorporating the web address into the logo to make the UTV brand have a stronger presence on screen and online:

*

After the new promotional end-board the viewer is greeted with a new UTV breakbumper with the UTV logo animating onto the screen sliding from the left (like the current idents animate). :

*

Next up should we have a look at what is coming up on the channel? The new 'coming up' sequence uses a tidier animation to the current package and also only has one line of text on screen at at time fading out to reveal the next image and programme name :

*

And finally, is it Christmas already?!?! A festive breakbumper would be seen which would match the new ident set. Snow would also animate on screen, not in a blizzard like fashion, but simply drifting down the breakbumper:

*

So that's what I have come up with so far for the channel. If you like the design ideas then I will go on to produce some idents for the new look design to match the elements above.

Enjoy, if you can! Smile

Hardly an improvement to UTV's current presentation. Looks like Victor Meldrew has been hired to create the graphics.

It'd look better with a bit more colour, and maybe some more features (not entirely sure what though) within the graphics, most notably the breakbumper.

More colour needed. The whole package looks dull.

Haha fair enough. When looking on a different monitor it does look quite dull so I will add more colour. Thanks xwing and rob for commenting. Smile
