A continuation of my previous mock (January 2014)

Continuation of my previous mock really - I was going to just tag this onto here - http://www.tvforum.co.uk/thegallery/updated-obs-graphics-38432/ - but it seems the topic is closed - doesn't really deserve it's own thread!

So yeah, simple update of my London 2012 design taking some inspirations from the Sochi 2014 branding - just the one image.

Depending on how bored I get, I might do some more of these during the next few weeks.

Nice to see how this superb look can be updated for Sochi. It's shame we're probably going to end up with whatever we end up with onscreen though.

Anyway, more interesting than then endless studio recreations we always seem to get.

Nice to see these resurrected - they were a superb design when you did them for London and still look great now. I would like to see them "winterfied" a bit though - even if that might be moving into more obvious territory.

I didn't think it was a Mock it was that good, definitely looks like something that could be used on TV. Well Done, Truly Fantastic!

Full colour scheme

I'm taking the same basic route as the variations in my London graphics - the headline font used for the titles on graphics, colours and then "detail" on top of the base graphics are all taken from the main public branding for the events. Lots more colours this time, as London only had four colours, Sochi have given every event it's own colour.

The triangles on these images need more texture to them really, but it's fiddly and annoying work that I may do at some point.

These are awesome! Very professional, and should be considered by IOC for future graphics at future events.

Very good. I would love to see something as good as this for Sochi. Good colours and a very clean idea.

Small change to the pictogram area, to tie into the triangular look of the games branding.

(also covers new custom font I've built for the title text to match the branding[/img]

I don't think pictogram box matches up as nicely with the rest of the graphic.

I think its the point edges on the left boxes, that's rounded on the right that jars slightly. Also are the "lines" on the right representative of anything or merely decoration? Perhaps having the pictogram here also albeit faintly may look nice?

Umm... You might want to use a Slovenian flag instead of a Slovak flag for Slovenian competitors. Wink

("SLO" is Slovenia, not Slovakia -- and I thought Americans were bad at geography... Wink )

But to be honest, even real broadcasters confuse the two countries all the time, so at least your mock is realistic.

I'm still working on this, but had to roll back a bit to animate it properly. Here's a little preview of where I'm at:

I'm not sure how I chose the flags in that image - although I know the images use 2-character names. The good news is that all my flags now come from a web service which gets it's data from Wikipedia, so if you spot a wrong flag in one of my new updates it's not my fault! Smile

Basically, I'm now rendering the whole thing in real time in Flash. Everything is generated and animated by handwritten actionscript, so it's time consuming to write, but gives me very precise control over the output, as you can see if you zoom in.

But, I need to actually render video for the "effects", a process I've started but that's much trickier because of the way I'm doing this - an issue which means that it currently looks rather flat and uninteresting.

Getting there though!
