Hello, I've been in the labs working on a TV Guide app for the iPhone. Here it is so far:

*

The concept for the main guide was to have each channels logo on the left (Sorry for poor Sky 1/2 logos) and then a 'window' from an ident that is blurred and such. Apologies there, for where areas are white and meaning the text is hard to see, I'm working on a fix.

*

The concept here was for the Channel logo and Programme Logo (If any) at the top, and then for the description to go in the middle, with iPlayer and HD info at the bottom.

Improvements to come:

Quality of Sky1/Sky2 Logos
Editing of the FIVE backer and so to make it so it doesn't turn parts of text invisible
Darkening of the image on the programme page, as it too makes text hard to breathe
Examples from other channels, to show how it'd work there
Possibly iPhone style menus & a logo
MAJOR FONT CHANGE
Smoothing out (Doctor who logo cuts abruptly, BBC iPlayer + BBC HD logos have white edges)

And now if you will, some brutally honest comments Very Happy

How about you just remove the backgrounds altogether? They are so distracting. Also don't use 'Now' and 'Next' just use the times, its far more easier to tell when its on (aka like a normal TV guide).

I would personally not download it.

Thanks for reading.

Edit: Get rid of the one page listing for Doctor Who and replace it with a whole scrollable listing of all the programmes on that day on that particular channel when you touch the channel banner on the home page.

Thank you for your comments & honesty. I'd like to point out that tapping on the programme would take you too the page, and tapping the channel would show you the listings for that day. I'll look at editing things around, changing Now & Next too times, and so on.

You haven't really considered consistency, readability or practicality. Or just general nice-looking graphics.

Why didn't you make these planned improvements before uploading your mocks here? They would taken all of five minutes to make.

Well I don't know why you bother really. Have you not got any homework to do?

It wouldn't be overly difficult to build this for real using the data feeds from tv.bleb.org, jQuery, notepad and Safari. Probably a more worthwhile use of your time too...

Well, it's expected that by now the mock should be removed and that the creator should throw a temper tantrum, moaning about how you have no consideration for his feelings - however time is
money, not to be wasted and I'm not two years old, and subsequently won't throw a tantrum. Thanks for your comments, and am I right in thinking that there's a unanimous verdict towards me not continuing this?

And as for the homework comment, haven't been given that or coursework for a few years now. Surpirisingly, I failed on my Graphics course.

As I said, why not try building it for real?

It's not a difficult project, and you might learn some useful skills. Also implementing it for real would mean you have to tackle many of the issues others have indicated in order to get it to render successfully and repeatably, and would show many of the issues with readability.

Sorry, my browser didn't show up your comment. I'll take a look into developing it for real.

EDIT: Currently developing for real.

It will be interesting to see.

Why have you used the old Channel 4 logo? You've used the current logo for all the channels and then thrown in a logo from 15 odd years ago?

The main thing that annoys me about this is that you've completely ignored the iPhone UI elements such as fonts, glyphs, toolbars etc, so I made a quick mock up of how I believe an iPhone app should look
