This months challenge was:
A new music channel is launching in the UK. Vibe Music TV (known only onscreen as 'vibe') is a large music channel in Germany and it is launching in the UK on Freeview and Sky. The channel needs graphics designing such as idents, straps (for the music videos) and a logo to keep it 'current' and 'fresh' as the design may be on air for a number of years. The logo can be big, bold and in your face - just like the programming on vibe. The channels graphics must comply with the 4:3 safe areas (as some music videos are 4:3) although the channel will broadcast in 16:9 (like 4Music). The channel caters for the age range or 18-32 so the music will be mainly from the 90’s, 00’s and current tunes.
The entries were the following:
TV Matters :
The things I liked:
In this mock I liked the dark purple colour of the overall on-screen presentation. I also liked how you added the equalizer bars into the video info strap. The vibe logo looks good and would suit the channel theme well.
The things I didn't like:
This included the slant on the web address strap and the small squares on the background. Although this looks good on a computer monitor it may make the text blurred on a small TV.
Overall though a great effort but some of the font's used let this mock down.
German Rudnev:
The things I liked:
My immediate impression of this mock was 'wow'. Clearly a lot of effort went into producing this mock and it shows. The logo is brilliant and could be used in many different ways on different media platforms.
I also liked the on-screen graphics being slick and incorporating the 'vi' of vibe. Very clever. The non/next trailers also looked well thought out which adds to the overall impact of the design.
The things I didn't like:
The main problem I has about your mock was the colour used as it instantly made me instantly think of 'viva'. This is forgiven though by the overall quality of the mock and the time that was taken to design it.
Richie:
The things I liked:
I think this mock was absolutely brilliant. I especially liked the QR codes on the name straps and the overall slick design that was created. The font used also compliments the design and is easy to read. The thing I thought of when looking at this mock was the end of the titles of 'The Cube' ITV programme.
The things I didn't like:
The thing I would change would be the colour of the 'now' text to make it clearer (perhaps green?)
JK08:
The things I liked:
I liked the background of the logo you posted as it would suit a music TV channel. You must have also listened to the in-your face part of the challenge!
The things I didn't like:
The problem with this mock was the disregard for safe areas, colour combinations and font sizes. The logo seemed OK but was again let down by the colour clashes and font of the text seemed to make some parts unreadable.
Compared to the other entries I feel this mock seemed to be the least well designed. It may have worked in theory but it's execution let it down.
The finalists of the competition are:
German Rudnev and Richie. Both of these mocks were absolutely brilliant and the quality of both were outstanding. There can only be one winner though and that is...............
Richie's mock:
Everything about this entry screamed quality and the small details such as the QR codes were a welcome addition to music channel presentation.
I am sure Bail will get in contact with you for setting up next months competition and a well done to all the entries!
