After taking in comments about various aspects of the design, I've revised it too make it much nicer, utilizing images and changing the weight of the font, whilst using a different font.

Programme End-boards

So, here is the main place that I used images. An image relevant to the programme is shown behind the relevant data, and I've adjusted the text near the logo, along with changing weight depending on the importance.

*

*

Now and Next

For a 'Now and Next' screen, I used a plain colour, which could be adjusted, or even have an image behind it, depending on season or weather or whatever really. It's a simple text slide.

*

Technical Fault

So, in changes to the technical fault slide, it also uses a plain colour, along with weight changes, and it could theoretically also have an image behind it.

*

Logo

So, I changed the logo in this version too, and due to the font changing it is taller, yet looks much neater.

*

Below is the original version of the mock, wrapped in Spoiler tags Comments are about this version until AxG's post after my own, where I posted different trail end-boards.

So, I thought I might delve into the world of mocking for the Gallery design challenge. I opted to brand the 'Channel Six' franchise as 'SIX', using a simple, yet bold typeface for the logo that could be used across the rest of the platform. The graphics seen here at 16:9 safe, so would best suited for the HD channel variant.

Logo

So, as previously mentioned, the logo is a bold typeface, with the background being the changeable element on screen, but in print the colour of the logo becoming the changeable element.

*

Break-bumpers

For the break-bumpers, I decided on plain and slightly muted colours, with a larger and slightly transparent version of the SIX logo in the background.

*

*

Programme end-boards

For the programme end boards, I again decided on a simple and uncluttered design, featuring only the DOG, the platforms the channel is on, and the Programme details. By separating the elements, it leaves space for an image or slowed down video to be the background. However, simple colours are used here.

*

*

Technical difficulties slide

As German Rudnev created one for his mock, I decided upon using one in mine. Changing the background SIX text, and simply stating the issues, I intended on clearly displaying what the relevant apologies/explanations.

*

DOG

So finally, the DOG. I may well change the size on this one, as it may be slightly too large. Rather transparent, it would remain this transparency throughout, not lightening during idents or promos.

*

Upon my continuation, I intend to go into 'Coming up' sequences and 'Next' slides.

It's a bit bland, isn't it? Looks very "five" to me - single colour end boards with a text logo semi-transparent overlay. Doesn't really make me want to watch the channel.

Hmm, I was working on trying to make it bold but without making it too bold and brash, which wouldn't work on a channel which is supposed to focus around factual programming and drama - I'd decided that I'd end up making it more suitable for BBC Three or something if I went too bold and brash, which I inevitably would. However, I can see this being viewed as bland. I'll see how I can change this.

The DOG is different to the logo having the letters closer together.
But like what's has been said, it's very dull, and you have forgot about the safe areas.

I agree, you can be minimal but still have a bit of style to it. These just seem a bit bland. And hanging outside the 16:9 safe area.

I look at this, and I see that the DOG is different to the logo by the separation of the characters, it is very bland and I think that it needs some life in the backgrounds! Exclamation

I'm working on an updated version, where they'll be images in the mix of promo end-boards and breakdown slides, and the logo will be unified. The error was due to spacing between letters, which remained the same when the logo size was enlarged. The end result should be much nicer.

So, following the critique of the mock, I understand it is bland. So, to hopefully resolve the issue, I've reworked the designs, starting with the programme end-boards.

Programme end-boards (NEW)

So, the original version used a plain colour, one of the reasons it was bland. Also, it used a different logo. In this version, there's an image relevant to the programme in coloured light, if that's what you'd call it. The 'SIX' logo is now the same is the DOG, and the various details have been moved further in.

Hopefully, you'll agree these are improved and not so dull and bland.

I should hope to continue with these in due course.

Honestly, it's an improvement, yes, but using the same font and weight for everything, to me is a bit boring, along with the font itself; Arial Bold.

Just a note, in case the (Version 2.0) tag isn't enough, but at the top of the page the ideas have been updated, although the original mock can still be seen.

Sorry, but you've gone from one boring font to another.

^ Indeed. While you appear to be designing for 16:9 safe, you forgot, not everyone has a 16:9 set, not even in 2011!

It is very basic and bland and is oversized if it is meant to be HD.
