Hey, I think the display order was changed on speed auction, but the bidding system was still the same - a first in, last out kind of situation. Back in the day, the auctioneers would always push the fact that the first person to bid a price would be the final person to be outbid, so I'd assume it's the same.

Ah cool, gotcha. A quick look at the speed auction tv website on web archive also confirms this so I'll add that to the list of changes to make. I have a feeling it's going to be very tricky getting the leaderboard order to be different from the outbid order for speed auction tv, but I'll give it a bash Smile

Hey, with the little knowledge I have, I'd probably try creating a display order tag for each price, and reversing the display order for the speed auction graphics. The rising price bid graphics shouldn't be *too* difficult to do, though, with the display order matching the bidding order. I've no idea why speed auction's graphics were the wrong way round.

Talking of wrong way round, for a few months after speed auction tv's launch, the auction arrow would sometimes swap to the other side of the screen - I don't have any footage of it, and I doubt I have any still images, but that is the only graphical element missing (as far as I can tell, anyway).

Just one more suggestion - and I'm not sure if it's been brought up before - have you considered adding the ability to time-out any auction (rising or falling)?

I did think about this at the very start of the project, but when narrowing down which graphics sets I was going to include, the era the game is 'set' in ends just before they started using clocks to end auctions. I think the clocks came in after they changed the graphics to have the small pounds sign instead of the large pound sign on the bid and drop graphics. I could be wrong though.

Maybe in future updates I could look at including a time-out clock. Or could even have the 'close' button active in falling price options so they can be closed manually?

Before price-drop/bid changed their graphics to reduce the size of the pound sign, they did have a timer for a very brief period. The timer was more like the Countdown clock, and was very crudely cut out from a display on the back of the screen. I'll try and find some archived images of it from my old site.

I think having a time-out timer would be a good idea all-round. I'm not sure how you've written the logic, but I'd assume there'd be some sort of pressure factor that could be added when there's a timer on screen.

I'm guessing you've got a massive laundry list of things people want now - if there's anything I can help with, let me know. Smile

Nearly got 1000 points yesterday. I did a falling price auction on a watch with a starting price of £2525. The target closing price was £151 and it sold for £1400 on it's first price plunge.

Hey, managed to get this working the way it should now. Turned out to be less tricky than I thought it would be to have the speed auction display order correct - just needed to send the top 6 winning bidders to a new list, re-order the new list, then send that new list to the leaderboard.

Working through the list slowly but surely Smile Still working on choice auctions, but managed to implement particle effects on the auction arrows and an exploding megadrop 'M' for the pence graphics.

I love the attention to detail on this - everything I remember is there from the quantity fading out as it counts down on the old bid graphics to the arrows pulsing at the top whilst staying the same size at the bottom. The poor triangle even gets eaten too. He's got the spin on the old price-lock & p&p charge spot on.

That sounds like fun - can't wait to explode that M - Have you made a Christmas pudding version of it to go with the Christmas graphics?

The particle effects will finish this off nicely - have you done the coins, flames, flame thrower, snowflakes or the little triangles so far?

1 other possible thing you might want to add is that in some of the later graphics sets they could make multiple graphics pulse at the same time or throb as they used to call it.

The thought occurred to me the other day - Sit-up used to have the choice on the website where you could see all the upcoming auctions and put your lowest bid in ahead of time. When the auction came up on screen if the price dropped below what you put in, you would secure the item and it would knock one off the quantity available on screen. This would quite often knock anywhere from three to a dozen off the available quantity after a price plunge/clearance/megadrop/major fall in the price.

It didn't happen for every item, naturally, but it happened often enough to get a mention from the presenter.

I don't think it'll be that difficult to implement either - generate a few random prices from £1 upwards to, say, £1000 and knock one off the quantity if the current price falls below that price.

Ah, didn't know there was a different version of it. Do you have any screenshots or videos of this?

So far I've added the auction arrow fire for price-drop, the fire for speed auction, and the little triangles for bid. I've uploaded a little test video showing the particle effects so far here . Still got a few tweaks to make to them but that's probably the best I'll get them.

Cool that should be a fairly quick edit to make Smile

Ah cool, great idea! I'll add that to the list Smile

Did you manage to get hold of the 2007 price-drop music? It came in at the same time the 2007 bid music was introduced.

No, never managed to find that unfortunately. Would love to include it if it can be found one day.

I managed to get Speed Auction 2007 from them; and some unreleased mixes of bid 2007 - but never got the price drop stuff.

good luck anyone who takes up the challenge. Razz

I notice the clock option in that preview! Wink Would we be able to use clocks on non four minute rising price auctions?

Ah great, thanks for the link! Wonder if it's worth getting in touch. Might drop them an email this afternoon and see what happens.
