How did you do those lines in the end? You can PM me if you don't wanna bore the thread with a long explanation.

A couple of things to note.

Those placenenames could be a touch smaller, and loosen that letter spacing, also move them away from each other a bit.

The logo needs to be moved up slightly. You always need to place these things slightly above the actual centre of the screen or else it feels too low.

Finally it may be interesting for you to add some subtle elements to the background and maps. There are the animated text elements, the shimmer lines, the cross hatching effects, etc you could put in there which are all "on brand".

Those details do make a difference... to the rendering times! I don't think I've ever used so many precomps within comps before. However it does add more detail and subtly to the formup.

MDTA - In terms of connecting lines, there is a great script called connect layers that's free and does a great job and what LN used. Basic workflow is create the placename layers, position in 3D space either by hand or using a wiggle offset, parent to a 3D null, animate the null, select the layers, apply the script and it generates the lines and parents them accordingly in 3D space.

If people are interested I may post the AE project when I'm done so people can have a look.

Edit: Here's the animated version and also my remix for the titles music that I've made to cut it with, thoughts as ever welcome.

Thanks for the info, I will need to give that script a try. I just assumed it was done in 3D along with the globes and rings, and I found a similar way to do them. I created a spline with vector points linked to the anchor points on the placenames. I adjust the splines so they have a thickness to them. And then I place a sphere at the centre, linking the text and lines to it, so I can rotate them and animated them in 3D space.

May I suggest another idea? An Là title being the recolour of BBC National News title, while theme tune being the mix of National News' (either 2008 or 2013) and current An Là's at E major.

I'd amend the music mock to include the NBH strings and extension.

Yeah, I can't find a hold that I like that works, hence the lack of one. Ultimately it would emulate the nationals and have an extended beaty hold whilst the wide shot does its thing.

This is a quick rough mock of the National mixed with the aired version of the RS music. I don't know if you have tried the 'V1' that is on David Lowe's site, it might be easier?

EDIT: This is my rough mock using the V1 on DL's site.

That sounds awful to be honest, and also why would you want National stings on a regional programme?

The 'Nations' music is based on the National music from 2008, but hasn't been updated to 2013. I was showing how it could be updated to '13, albeit roughly.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Been a little slow on this, working on other projects but the form-up is now done, rendered and about 2mins long allowing for lots of hold.

I've added further subtle detail, in sunlines, and bits of "stuff" as well as the pulsing rings.
