Yes, the basis is journalism and we are confident that our pupil groups work is strong, we just don't want the presentation/technical side to be a let down. Some reports we have seen had excellent reporting skills, microphones and in HD - then was let down by Movie Maker graphics. I'm not saying presentation is
that
important, but it goes a long way to help tell the story.

At some point, though, isn't the increased complexity going to make it harder your fellow pupils to actually make it work? It is fine to want the presentation to be of a good standard, but to make it needlessly complex is foolish. Well made, simple graphics are going to be miles better than whizz-bang graphics that look messy and complicated, and add 6 hours to the render time.
If you want to perfect the graphics and presentation, make sure you can focus that on a few things, rather than have to rush through hundreds of things.
If it gets to the point where the presentation is holding back the journalism, then you will have to step back and simplify things.
I'm not an expert here, but I assume most schools will just go with PowerPoint graphics. But I still don't understand why the BBC would want the Schools to make them as surely they'll just end up with them looking like News Channel Graphics on other TV Shows. Wrong Font. Wrong Positioning etc. Like This.

Obviously you
really
needed to do a bad mock to emphasize what you're saying.....
As for the graphics, they couldn't care less what they looked like because that's not what school report is about. Its about the journalistic experience which the pupils will learn, not if the aston design should use Arial or Helvetica.

He's already mentioned that some are provided, but he doesn't like them.
We'll probably go ahead with the SD graphics if we really need to, if not, 'trace' them in Photoshop and fade them onto the video. Plus I may have an onscreen cameo, either as a weather presenter or as a 'thank you' at the end !
Okay this is all very confusing... DanielK, are you a Pupil or a Staffroom Assistant?
Either way... I hardly think its necessary to be spending all of your time working on graphics when the whole point of the School Report is the Journalism not the presentation.
During my GCSE Media studies, we only had crappy old VHS cameras and a ropey edit suite that couldn't do any graphics at all... instead of whining about it, we just got on with it, and made do with what we had.
Stop complaining about the quality of the graphics you have, and either do something about it, or accept the fact and move on.
I also don't think its really appropriate for a Staffroom Assistant to be a weather presenter either.

Rant Over
There really should be +1 system on this where you would get Kudos for every post you agree with...

I hate to pour water over this (actually I don't mind), but this sounds like a lot of "who shot John".
Some people, myself included, love the sets and the graphics and the camera shots and the music; and then you have real journalists, to whom all of that is VERY secondary. Its the exception rather than the rule to be focussed on both.
The School Report is about teaching skills of gathering, assimilating and presenting stories. Whether you have basic chromakeying or Barco projector cubes, a tripod or a crane or SD or HD is largely immaterial.
I think, and forgive me if I'm wrong, you're all unwittingly humouring a fantasist; and before you all invest more time you should ask to see some evidence of this project actually existing.
