If you're talking about the channel, we don't exactly know. All we know as of right now is that it has a licence to launch on Freeview.
Somebody on Twitter thought the name was synonymous with documentaries.

My only useful suggestion at this stage would be to think more carefully about the colours you're choosing; the black 'Merit' in the theatre is almost invisible, for example. Think about what an ident is for; it is supposed to stand out to the viewer - in this case - "you're watching ITV Merit". If the viewer can't read what it says, it rather defeats the point of having an ident at all. I'd suggest you take a look and reconsider some of the colour choices you've made, with particular reference to the theatre and city idents. This small change will make a huge difference and then you can work on it from there.

I definitely think this mock has...um, merit, and I like the logo, but I think the idents need finessing. I actually feel like some sort of bevel or a very subtle gradient could help the logo stand out instead of looking pasted on - I'd have a go at experimenting with different things and seeing what works.
But keep working on this - I think something great could come out of it.
