I'll be honest - only 2 of those are rude, and when rereading them, they're snipy ways to say "Improve on your work". The other 3 seem like legitimate criticism. The message was a bit wordy, and you did improve your handling of words with the new revisions. Keep it up.

My first impression of your original slide was that it was very aesthetically pleasing - I could see it being used on the channel. However, when I read it I did think this is what every channel controller would like to say to their audience - but they just don't do it that way. Some time ago there was a big push to make continuity more "user friendly" - but it didn't get this far - quite. I haven't seen your revision as I'm logging on today from work. I have read some good/positive comments about it though.

I do like what you have done with the "hd." In my opinion, much more could have been made of these important initials - and, bearing in mind what they stand for, a bit of gloss and shine and a bit more thought into how they would look would have been a good thing. So, all credit to you for doing just that.

As for taking the criticism personally - of course you are going to do that - afterall, the comments are about your hard work. All I can say is though don't think about going into television as a career choice. Even though I love it, you do need a thick skin. You can make the most wonderful television in the world and nobody will say anything - cock-up and it'll feel like the sky has fallen in after all the negative feedback. Just the way it is - in most places.

Overall, I think your first go at a mock has been very, very good and I look forward to seeing much more of your work in the future.

So you've got the ITV fonts, and some logos. You've created a 16:9 frame and just slapped some text on it with some coloured backgrounds.

It's still a poor effort.

Think about what you're trying to achieve, draw them out by hand first (often helps with development as you're not constantly redoing stuff on a computer), come up with something imaginative based around the brand assets if that's gonna help you. Don't keep regurgitating poor mocks because it'll put you off.

Think about the old ITV1 HD message, and where can it go, how could it have been better implemented? You've got 1920x1080 pixels to play with! Could they not have done something like nightscreen during non-HD content with the message overlaid, or off to the side in an interesting PIP effect? Use the shapes to your advantage - the lozenges of the 2006 ITV logos for instance? Just some different ways of handling what you've (rather poorly) tried to execute.

I'm not going to get sucked into a flame war with you, though I will be the bigger man here and say I probably could have phrased the "half-arsed" response better so I will take responsibility for that. However the principle remains the same - it's better to do one good decent mock rather than do six half-baked ones.

Surely Nightscreen needs a capital N?

Literally, you've chosen a look where ITV was in the process of phasing out the ITV1 brand. Bare bones, basic black on white text. The design can literally be knocked up in 5 minutes. Changing a paragraph of text isn't a mock.

You may throw on strop on here, but try actually working in a creative department with several department stakeholders debating over what should be changed from a Creative's work

The revision is certainly an improvement - it doesn't take half an hour to read which is a good start. Not sure you need to have the DOG when the logo is placed in the middle of the screen too.

I wouldn't see any of the comments you quoted here as rude. For example, (although I cannot speak on his behalf) I read dbl's comment as saying that there isn't really much to the design as it is, after all, text on a black background. Critique is meant to be harsh but helpful. Comments like from Neil Jones regarding signposting channel 3 are exactly this.

If you don't want to take advice then what is the point in posting here? If you're willing to take on feedback then you will get somewhere with the design as even 20 pairs of eyes will notice lots of issues that you wouldn't yourself.

EDIT - Just noticed your ITV mock on here too. I would suggest working on one thing at a time rather than trying to juggle 2 projects. The graphics are average but the alignment is off, they aren't 16:9 safe and the gradients - they're not really 'fashionable' or a 'design trend' now.

Can you please improve your mock? I also have been criticised. Therefore, you should be really put your time and effort. Although, I am rating this mock as 1/5

When do you propose to improve yours? Considering Sharitall21 has at least tried to improve and posted revisions, you've provided no response to the issues raised in your thread re: your mock.
