To be honest, the only thing I like about this is the idea of the ITV1 logo, with the ITV logo being inside the "one".
The square behind the logos over-complicates it. It would look much better without them IMO. As for the text, it is over sized and ugly, by which I mean the choice of font and its spacing.
The current ITV1 idents are dark enough as it is (for a channel which calls itself "the brighter side"). I can't help but think if these were on the TV I'd feel as if I were watching the Sci-Fi channel, not the country's leading entertainment one.

The idea was (as putting ITV within the word THREE is unworkable and you'd end up with TW(itv) and F(itv)UR) to use ITV ONE as it's the flagship channel while the 'baby' multichannels have numbers rather than words.
Will try some new ones now. The star background on the ITV One logo is simply to illustrate the logo rather than an ident specifically.

It all looks a bit dated to me, kind of early/mid 90's, that may be te angled pictures and gradients/bevels. With regards the ITV 1 logo, it reads as "itvNE" to me (taking it the other way though and applying your theory to the news branding, that would read "itvONEWS").
I agree with the comment about the square overcomplicating it too, and why not a square for the itv News logo? With regards the background, I'm assuming the London skyline bits would be there all the time and the Gordon Brown bit would change? I don't think this (the skyline) works unless it is a regional programme. If it was supposed to be an actual skyline out of a window, fine, bbut not like this fading into the "office" in parts. Also the bit of the LWT tower is a bit generic, I doubt many peoiple would actually know what it was, a shot of Big Ben would probably be more appropriate (and associated with itv News) - actually I see it is there, just obliterated by Gordon Brown, in whioch case you need to rearange it perhaps .
The titles again, are just London landmarks, makes it look very much like a regional news programme for London (what does St Paul's Cathedral have to do with the news otherwise?)
