I like the idea and design, but I wish it looked more... ITV News-ish. Now, hear me out. This doesn't look like the current ITV News look. I mean, it DOES, but not... ish? It's sorta off, in a way. Like buying a "2ky" satellite box and learning that it's not a Sky box. It just feels... off.

Thanks for your comments. Now, let me get this right... you like the idea and design but wish it looked more ITV News-ish. It doesn't look like the current ITV News look, but it does, but not-ish. It's sorta off, like buying a "cup of toffee' and learning it's not a "cup of coffee". It just feels off.

Hmmm, you sound confused, maybe this will help you out.

The current ITV News titles feature beautifully shot, wonderfully lit, high-definition, very expensive footage. This pixel packed footage has been sliced into tiles and made into scenes where some of the tiles are rotated, some changed to a colour-picked block fill and some removed altogether to reveal either a black or white background. Each tiled scene features one subject shot from different angles therefore every tile in each scene complements the rest. The resulting composite has then been rendered at high definition for broadcast to millions on television.

In contrast, my homage features really low definition clips from YouTube most of which were originally recorded on VHS. The scenes are not one subject shot from different angles but rather they're scrapbook pages featuring lots of different images. The resulting composite has then been rendered so that it doesn't exceed the 30mb upload limit for the amusement of tens of people on a website forum, or not-ish.

While I can't see something like this ever being used on air... it is a really nice 'tribute' of sorts. Not keen on the slowed down theme but all the archive shots you've chosen work really nice together. Good work pip!

Thank you so much for taking this as it was advertised, a tribute, my homage for my amusement and yours too if you happen to enjoy it.

Looks fantastic! Only request, as with everyone else. Get rid of the "Bringing Facts to Life". Too generic.

Thank you very much, glad you like it.

I wanted a clear reference to the '60 years' before the logo and a two part reveal worked better with the music, so I was looking for a standalone phrase that made sense without the second part (which BTFTL does). I didn't want something as frivolous as something like 'Celebrating 60 years' or as industry orientated as '60 years of broadcast journalism' or the like. 'Where the news has lived for 60 years' clearly doesn't make any sense so that was out.

ITN pioneered replacing still images and voiceovers with filmed reports and in-vision newscasters - literally animating the news, bringing it to life. ITV News has used BTFTL in the past, as this is a tribute to the past and it works in the context, I stand by its inclusion.

Oh. Well, it makes sense now with the context. Too bad that even most of us don't know that.

I may have slightly mis-remembered with the on-screen newscaster fact. A clip of the BBC News, on TVArk, features the newsreader talking over a still image. From the titles it would appear that the Newsreel was included in the bulletin, so they did show moving images but with just a voiceover. ITN's approach was to interact by having personality reporters challenging and investigating rather than just a disembodied 'announcer' reading out the preprepared facts.

TVArk states "Unlike the staid BBC newsreel, ITN soon established itself as a populist and enthusiastic service, with a journalistic style never seen before on British television. It's reporters - including Robin Day - were never afraid to ask searching questions, taking politicians totally by surprise. Even the signature tune had a spring in its step."

Well I think it's brilliant. Prefer the new music to the old but would work really well if they do a week of programmes marking the occasion again.

The concept of the news titles is great, if a little busy, but I would really like to see ITV have idents like the one you've used for its 60th birthday.

This is amazing! I would like to see a version with the original music not slowed down, or maybe a remix of that original version.

Thank you. Here's a version with the original music not slowed down, but as the only beds around when it was recorded were for flowers or sleeping in had to improvise the lead-in with a bit of ninety-nine nightly news (everyone's a superhero, everyone's a Captain Kirk Very Happy )

That's OK, this is better than the first version of it, especially as you've added suitable strings from other eras to match with it.

Also proves that the old music would work with the current titles, with minor modifications!

The closing credits, however, would fit better, I think, with the music from the 1993-1999 era.

Another suggestion is that if you keep the first version, try to add the drum and bass of the current version to it, that way it would not sound too slow.

I'd give the '93 ending a try, but alas I'm not in possession of any of the tracks from that era so I've used the 55-82 'out' in this version instead just because you might as well change all the tracks when you're re-rendering.

As for adding the drum and bass from the current to the original, that was the what I set out to do initially, but I couldn't isolate it properly (because 'I taped it off the telly') so I abandoned that idea... this was the best I could manage.
