ITV News Rebrand

* Apologies for this being the third ITV News mock in two days. I had planned to post this last week, but decided to make new title cards from scratch *

So here is my imagining of how ITV can make their news bulletins more distinctive. I've split the bulletins up into the ITV Midday News, Evening News, Weekend News and News At Ten. The graphics remain the same for each bulletin, except for the logo.









I've used the Midday news to show the new graphics. The other bulletins are the same, just with the respective logos.

For the studio, I would tweak the backdrops with images from the title cards, and would tweak the desk with a green screen element. Shown here is a very basic example of how this could be implemented. A simple change, but it would make the studio more distinctive for each of the different bulletins.


As always, please give some comments on how to improve (and apologies once again for the bad timing).

Apologies for the overly long post; it seems that Photobucket links cause gaps in the page.

Even worse than the other two ITV News mocks in this forum, if I'm being brutally honest. (Interesting how both you and JamesCraker worked on your mocks last week but didn't get round to posting them until after pad did his.) Anyway. Some feedback for you: the tiny squares make your title caps look almost pixelated - the squares should be larger; the "Midday News" title just doesn't sound right at all (I'd keep "Lunchtime News" if I were you); the website plug strap is bigger than the aston you've designed for the reporters, which seems rather odd; and the endcap should state the name of production company, i.e. 'ITV News' or 'ITN', not the title of the bulletin. And you've misspelled 'correspondent'.

The 'Midday' news title doesn't sound as good as Lunchtime News. I don't really like the idea of the show name on the desk.
However, I really like the astons. I can imagine them being used on TV.
Titles are ok, but I think they need brighter colours rather than grey.

Lunchtime News sounds better and to be frank, none of these ITV News mocks have really extended or improved the current branding situation which is what an improvement mock is supposed to do.

In what way are they even worse? (Not a snide comment, I'm just interested to hear) If you don't want to believe me, that's absolutely fine. I chose Midday News to try it out over Lunchtime, but it is obviously not a good fit. I would disagree over the quarter size boxes, I don't think they cause the title card to look pixelated at all. Thank you for pointing out the spelling mistake. There are two sizes of straps in this mock, why is it strange that the larger strap was used?

The desk idea was a simple CGI way of making the bulletins more distinctive, without any cost. I agree on the grey, it looks a bit dull, especially on the Evening, Midday and Weekend bulletins. Thanks for your feedback.

I just aren't seeing any of these new ones an improvement.

You obviously haven't taken time to think about these graphics because you've posted the story about the bus crash which was only yesterday...

Maybe he edited the graphics to make the breaking story up to date. It doesn't mean that he created these graphics yesterday.

Indeed, the first story was a breaking news story on IS, then I changed it on Thursday after the Talk Talk scandal, before finally changing it again last night.

A slightly brighter view for the Lunchtime News.




I also had a go at changing the itv.com/news promo to the smaller strap BBCNicky, but I wouldn't have said it was an in improvement. Apart from that, nothing else was really suggested.

Yes - come up with something original instead of making derivatives of other people's ideas or poor recreations of what we already see on TV.

Whenever I am original (Weekend, BBC News On Demand) it's labelled fantasising and ridiculous.

This set of graphics fit with the current brand, but is still noticeably different.
