So with the new News at Ten launching with Tom Bradby, ITV reverting to 'ITV Lunchtime News' and 'ITV Evening News' monikers and them creating Twitter accounts for the individual bulletins, I guess I was inspired to think about how the branding could work with this.

These are just some very initial ideas.

Final titles concept (previous updates below)

I've changed the ITV logo from being stacked and two-tone in colour to one block colour and one line.

I have made the titles larger and fixed the spacing between the two lines.

Colour wise, I have made some small tweaks to all three.

Aston wise they would use the ITV News logo rather than the programme title as I initially experimented; however these would change through the day. I may do these final strap designs.

In terms of the titles, I should think this will be the last time I tweak these as I am now happy with them. Appreciate all the feedback and hope people feel I've developed them sufficiently, even if they're not to everyone's tastes! It's been fun mocking again, if a bit of a daunting experience at times.

I'd like ITV to adopt a blue scheme over the teal colour at the moment, and have different shades of blue for the three bulletins as the time of day changes. The top logo would be used for weekend/out of slot bulletins.

I like the current set so would probably just recolour it slightly to suit the different time of day and be more blue-y than teal. I'd consider a London backdrop for News at Ten only.

Anyway, broad strokes - my reputation with mocks has never been glorious so I apologise if these offend anyone! Laughing I'm considering taking them further and looking at some on-screen graphics for a refresh of those too (straps and maybe titles).

Feedback welcomed.

How I would like the graphics to look.

Keeping the same opening titles style as now with the squares, each bulletin getting 'darker' through the day in colour/shade as seen in the opening titles, logo and on-screen graphics.

Update 2

In response to feedback about logos using title along with "ITV", an alternative which would involve programme names in their own box and the "ITV News" logo at the bottom:

Update 3

Thanks for all the comments and votes, good and bad. Here are my newest ideas for the titles for the bulletins, based on feedback received:

Lunchtime News
*

Evening News
*

News at Ten
*

So I've abandoned the logo including the edition name, opting for unified "ITV News" logos in the bottom third of the screen and the bulletin name in the centre.

I've also changed the colours a bit, particularly looking at the Lunchtime News so it's less garish. All the while keeping the distinctive darkening in colour through the day. I've tried to make all three titles unified but different to suit the time of day.

They're very clean, tidy and i could easily see it being used by the broadcaster.

Regardless of your track record, you seem to have a grasp of the software you are using and are capable, at least in this case, of presenting good looking graphics. However, I expect more from 10 year veteran of this site.

If you continue i would like to see your title sequence ideas and then maybe your OSG ideas. Title sequence ideas need not be animated, 6 or so stills will do.

Currently 1/5 - whilst visually good, an experienced designer could produce this in less than 5 minutes.

I've never pretended to be an incredible mocker. Quite why I should have developed better skill necessarily just over time is beyond me.

I clearly stated they were quick mocks of a concept for having logos with the individual bulletin names in. I said they were broad strokes. The title says "First ideas".

You say they are clean and tidy, could see them being used but then go on to say that I "as a 10 year veteran of the site" have not done enough and that as a result it's a 1/5 (thanks for making them dim off the forum homepage though, something which seems weird since you deemed them "very clean, tidy" and "visually good".

I guess you're basically saying a mock design is crap unless it's a whole package of graphics, menus etc.

All that said, you are entitled to your opinion and I ultimately respect it, even if it confuses me. I appreciate I could/should(?) have done more than just post logo ideas. I guess I was, as I said in the original post, intending to do it in stages based on any feedback of the logo concepts.

However, I expect more from 10 year veteran of this site.

Why should the user's date of registration be an indication of ability? Scratch that, the better question is this: why is it even a factor?

All this really is is a reversed argument from age.

It is not. Nor did i say it was. You are finding additional meaning in my words, where none exists.

To be clear: Age and tenure on this forum has absolutely nothing to do with the abilities of said member nor is it a factor when i am rating a work. However, i do not think it is unreasonable to expect users with longer tenure to have more knowledge about this forum, to have read a significant number of posts, and to be familiar with what is and is not acceptable level of work within the gallery. It is a dissapointment to me to see these experienced members making the same errors that are made by new members.

To repeat: Whilst tenure does colour my expectations, it is NOT nor has it ever been a factor in rating the work.

If people are finding additional meanings in your words, perhaps try to phrase them so the chances of people misinterpreting them are a hell of a lot slimmer.

I agree - that was the point of my post. However, the sentence " However, I expect more from 10 year veteran of this site." is completely irrelevant and should not have been included in the original post.

Initial logo ideas based on existing ideas is not an acceptable level of work? Rolling Eyes
It is a dissapointment to me to see these experienced members making the same errors that are made by new members.

Please could you elaborate on these 'errors'? - this is the first time you mentioned errors and your previous post only went into tenure and the amount of time it would take a professional graphics designer to reproduce it (whilst conveniently leaving out planning, producing and reviewing previous ideas, etc.).
To repeat: Whilst tenure does colour my expectations, it is NOT nor has it ever been a factor in rating the work.

Please don't take me as a fool, I know what you mean and meant.

Whilst it may only be 'first ideas', that doesn't justify presenting a few logos. So far, that's your mock. A number of logos.

How can this project be anything more than 1/5 with what you have presented so far?

Why can't it be more than 1/5? Ever heard of quality over quantity? They're nothing particularly 'out-there', but they're executed well. I'd rather see one slide of something that pad admitted were "very initial ideas" than an animated video mock or pages of images of something that was flawed to begin with or was executed poorly. This sort of reaction is why I don't post mocks here.

As for the logos themselves - not entirely sure about the shade of light blue for the lunchtime backing, but all the other colours go well together.

Here are some graphics I had hoped to do a bit more work on before posting, but in response to the backlash in posting an initial concept I'll just post these a bit sooner. Works in progress, more of a concept, never pretended to be a mocking genius, etc. [/TVFdisclaimer]

See Update 1 in original post

Would be nice to think these weren't SO BAD that they deserved the 2 star "dimmed from forum" treatment. Makes me wish I hadn't bothered, it's a nice concept but rather unfair if I do say so. I'm also treated to a nice banner "Your design has not received a good rating. Consider the feedback from other members, view the helpful tips and see the successful designs." Meh. Sad

I'd have been happy with 3 stars but 2... ha, this forum ain't great for self esteem! 😂

Can people here just remember to be a little bit nicer please.

As for the mocks - it would be a classic example of arguably unnecessary tweaks ruining what is pretty much a perfect look. The programme brands haven't appeared on screen for 12 years, of which for at least 5 years they still have the Lunchtime/Evening News programme names. They haven't appeared on BBC1 news bulletins for over 16 years too.

I think by using the square you've actually highlighted the limitations of it - it looks exactly like what you've done - crammed the additional woring in whether it fits or not. Personally if you're definately working the programme names into them I'd go back to the drawing board - for me I'd think of the ITV News logo and programme name as two different things and that offers far greater flexibility (e.g. "Evening News" in text across the centre with an ITV News logo at the bottom of the screen, similar to how Newsnight is done)

The astons (other than the logo) are nice enough but think they'd inevitably run into problems with the longer names and job titles, though I applaud you for doing them differently.

As for the colouring - I find the lighter blue rather cold really and actually prefer the teal. I do like the idea of changing the colour scheme for News at Ten and to be honest that it the only way I would be changing the branding - it already has different titles to the earlier bulletins but moving away from white to a darker colour scheme would set it apart further yet not pull it completely away from the brand.

P.S. I have voted tactically.
Shouldn't that have been posted in the "John Logie Baird has Invented Television" thread?
