Hello Everyone,

I've decided to have one last go at trying to create a tv studio in Google Sketchup.
And here is my design for a new look for Central News.

I know it doesn't look fancy or anything but I just wanted to show you all how I would like it to look.
Any feedback good or bad is appreciated.

Not a fan I'm afraid.

Nothing matches the current ITV News style. Even though each region should have its own identity; the studio should still align with the current ITV News presentation. Additionally, what is the semi circle? I see a semi circle with an ITV logo and names of places floating about. When two anchors are sat at the desk, you see 'Central Ne' which looks strange. The translucent desk doesn't look very aesthetically pleasing either. Looks aside, it wouldn't be practical. The desk appears to be a complete cube with no space for the anchors to put their legs. That may sound silly, but it would be a big practical issue for the anchors themselves.

However, I believe that you do have the SketchUp abilities to do something good. Try a studio that matches the current ITV News style. 2/5 for now unfortunately, but good luck if you do decide to try another studio.
dbl and Licorice Allsort gave kudos

OK, you got the desk and some of the background done nicely, it's the semi circle that needs to be replaced.

2.5/5

Thanks for your feedback Aaron_2015 and MatthewFirth,

I created the Semi circle to give the ITV logo and place names a sort of 3D look but this seems to have backfired.
I see what your saying about only seeing Central Ne when 2 anchors are sat at the desk but I don't think it would be to bad if the camera was filming at different angle. But going by the rendered image it looks like i might have to have a little rethink about the positioning of the logo, place names and maybe get rid of the semi circle too.

TBH i never really thought about where the presenters legs would go when designing the desk so this is something i will have to look into aswell.

Looks like i have my work cut out to get this studio up to scratch.
Anyway thanks for the constructive feedback guys.

Not a fan of the world map, the semi-circle of cities or the font used, and as you've found out, the presenters need more leg room.
However, this could all be easily sorted out.

2 stars so far, however that could easily be boosted with some work.

Not sure if you intend this to be a real or virtual set but the ITV logo in the curve just looks wrong - so obviously fake and actually unnecessary.

The main issue I have is the framing of the main two presenter shot - it never looks good when you have two different backgrounds in shot - the set would look better if the "window" continues all the way along that wall.

I assume the world map is actually a screen, so that works fine IMO. Just needs a bit of colour adding to it, and although I'd certainly appreciate more people using their imagination to create their own looks rather than just recreating what we see already, actually by adding a bit of teal you would create a perfectly acceptable regional interpretation of the natoinal look.

Overall it's a bit more than respectable but not quite impressive. Indeed that seems a big jump in the TV Forum scoring system!

Sadly, it's all very cold, uninviting and lifeless. Take away the ITV Central branding and it's like a BBC regional news set from 25 years ago...
