What if Grampian stayed independent?

Hi all,

I can't remember if I've ever posted a mock on here before, but I suddenly had an idea for something like the old mock galleries on APFS, based around a "what if" scenario in which Grampian wasn't sold to SMG in 1997. Random, I know, but bear with me. The original sources for most of the images are from TV Ark or TV Live, but I did a lot of work to get them to reflect my ideas. Here goes...

(Okay, so this isn't a mock... they'd still use the same ident they were using in 1998 in this alternate universe.)

In November of 1999, most ITV regions unveiled a series of generic "Hearts" idents based around the network slogan of "TV from the heart of life". After much deliberation, Grampian decided to adopt a similar theme to their presentation, but modified it to suit their needs, with no ITV logo in sight. These idents used the same initial video clips as the corporate Hearts idents, but faded to these end slides. Instead of spinning hearts, the background contained spinning St. Andrews' Crosses instead! As with the network's generic set, there were morning, afternoon, and night colour schemes.

Promo and menu graphics were fairly straightforward and rather unimaginative.

With the launch of standardised widescreen continuity in summer 2000, Grampian rolled out widescreen versions of their "Hearts" idents, taking the opportunity to shrink their logo and name a bit.

*

The rest of the presentation became slightly slicker as well, taking advantage of the wider screen space.

Grampian went all out for Christmas in 2001, adopting a regional version of the network ident and modifying their promo graphics for the occasion.

In 2002, the "Hearts" gave way to the much-maligned "Celebrity" ident package. Grampian's version focused on local personalities while retaining their famous St. Andrew's Cross logo. The rest of their presentation fell largely in line with the network, albeit with an ever-so-slightly different colour scheme.

Grampian went all out for Christmas once again, with idents based around the network's reindeer mascots. Their logo takes the form of a firework in the night sky.

A slight update in presentation to match ITV's new "glass squares" theme.

*

For the third straight year, Grampian produced a classy regional version of the network's Christmas theme, based around snowflakes.

Very impressive, especially the modifications of the generic ITV Christmas idents. Smile

We seriously need more mocks like this.
Great job!

As always, Grampian used a regional variant of ITV1's generic idents. Presentation was essentially the same as the network, with the necessary logo changes of course.

*

Christmas was an icy affair that year on Grampian, just as it was on the network.

In 2006, ITV1 launched possibly their most dire generic idents ever, featuring "personality" videos and a new awkward-looking logo. Grampian put their foot down, refusing to use even a variation of it. Instead, they commissioned a series of regional idents, with their logo serving as a "window" to another perspective on the overall theme, whether it is water or light, as pictured here, etc.

*

*

The rest of their presentation follows roughly the same concept as the idents.

*

A rather clever concept for Christmas: the festive idents every year consist of the reflection of their usual idents on a patch of ice.

That's all I have so far... I may make news graphics, though. Thanks for your comments so far.

So I just turned on my computer and clicked over to the gallery and...

WOW what a mock.

5 Stars.

As I said before, brilliant - in fact probably even better than the first two posts due to the 2007 idents.

Just wow, I really like the idea and the execution of those 2007 mock idents. If only...

Great stuff - particularly the Christmas variations. Faithful evolutions.

The modifications are the real highlight for me - among the best I've seen, extremely convincing mockups; squint at them and you wouldn't know better! Really good example of how a 'What If?' idea can and should be done, congrats Smile
