Good Morning Britain: Graphics Recreation (UPDATED)

With some tweaks (January 2016)

Here is my recreation of the graphics used in ITV's Good Morning Britain. Rather than a new design, I have recreated the graphics, but have made some adjustments. The clock and logo are now in the bottom left, rather than floating above the ticker. I have tried to recreate the animations as accurately as possible. Everything was made from scratch, including the ITV opener at the start, the back from break animation and the sting at the end. The ITV opener had to be 'built' over two slides, then edited together and the back from break animation involved using 43 different layers opening at the same time to get the effect. These two animations in particular took a lot of attempts to get right.

I have also changed the way a name appears. Rather than having the name strap cover the story, the name and twitter handle appear at the top of the aston.

The graphics for regional news have also been changed, the name of the region now features on a ticker instead of a little white box to the right of the clock.

Now apologies for the fact that this is a Good Morning Britain mock, I know there are lots in The Gallery (including some questionable attempts from myself).

I'm keen to find what out what you all think.

Not bad at all, would have been better without the etv Studios DOG.

There seems to me more G M B mocks than G M B viewers.

Well done though, looks very professional although not sure on the slight changes to the i t v logo.

I think this is an improvement on your previous GMB mocks/recreations. I believe it could be improved by extending the ticker to the clock rather than leaving a small gap, I understand why you did it though. Also speed up the animation of the coming up graphics and, if possible, curve the bottom left corner of the clock and right corner of the source graphic. I am also questioning the effectiveness of the ticker for local news if the bulletins are only a couple of minutes long. On the whole though, this is a good recreation & I'm looking forward to the first update. Thumbs up

Well executed and the clock looks better but can't help but think "why?".

Because it's in line with the ticker maybe?

I like the regional ticker - though the animation seems a little off for the astons. The start out as the GMB logo shape scaling up before growing wider, like my unfinished recreation mock from 2014

Thanks for your comments everyone. Mike, thanks for the example, I'm going to have a look at the TOTH astons and see if I can get a better effect.

The regional news ticker would be useful for displaying the stories that can't be covered verbally in the bulletin, as usually only three stories are featured each morning. Maybe the ticker could even carry travel updates, as I find the travel information is very limited.

Nice idea but the ticker though is for news at a glance and I doubt the regional stories that don't make it to the bulletins are really of interest to many folk first thing in the morning.

Agree it might be useful for travel news but really they should probably looking at expanding their service off-screen with an app and website which offers that kind of information and can be localised to each individual, rather than each region.

An app would be great Brekkie, but I doubt the funding is there for regional news. I'll see what the ticker looks like with travel updates on it.

Much, much better Aaron. See how much more bearable the feedback is when you take on board the criticism? Wink

I'm not a massive fan of recreations but it's a fairly decent execution, and I'm glad you've managed to get the alignment right this time. I do actually think you could take the Good Morning Britain graphics and develop something fresh using the same elements - their constant tweaking has made the graphics look quite awkward on-screen now, especially with the gap where the weather stuff used to be. I saw a bit of the programme recently and cringed at the orangey 2-line strap they were using. The ticker looks better but obviously there's the awkwardness between the sharp edges of the straps and the curviness of the clock and logo - a flaw in the original design - they really should have decided on using either the circular ITV branding or the squares of ITV News rather than combine bits of both. It doesn't really work well. But back to your mock - perhaps an idea would be to come up with a better compromise??

And on those lines I've always felt that the Lorraine graphics look pretty awful since they moved away from being an off-shoot of Daybreak. It would be quite simple to do something with the GMB blob (i.e. turn it pink!) to link the Lorraine branding to it, so maybe that is something else you could look at.
