Tyne Tees Look North (North East)
Greetings, friends.

Let me begin by saying that I'm sorry; this is, after all, yet another Good Morning Britain mock.

But, before you throw your respective computers, laptops, or touch screen devices out of the window in a fit of fury and exasperation, do please take comfort from the fact that I have tried to completely redesign what's currently on screen, so I hope you'll find it at least somewhat fresh and interesting to look at... Hopefully...

Stills

I'll provide you with some still images of how the graphics look on a plain background first so you can focus on each little section, and then I'll show you how they work together.

1. Date strap to be used during the TOTH sequence.

*

2. Headline graphic which introduces a new story during the TOTH sequence.

*

3. Headline graphic shrunk down to 'normal size' following animations during TOTH sequence.

*

4. Date graphic to indicate the end of the TOTH sequence and the start of the main body of the programme.

*

5. Weather graphic to tell you the temperature where you live across the country, on screen throughout.

*

6. Contact details, also on screen throughout the main body of the show.

*

7. Ticker/flipper to give the latest headlines, on screen throughout the show.

*

8. Breaking news graphic.

*

9. Standard news story graphic.

*

10. A look at how the graphics fit together, featuring a 'standard' news story.

*

11. Another look at how the graphics fit together, this time featuring a breaking news story.

*

Video

I thought I should also include a video so that you can see how I envisage the graphics animating in order to really get a feel for my idea.

Well, that's it. Well done for wading through all of that.

Feedback very much welcome; that is, after all, the entire point of The Gallery.

Thanks, folks.

Great mock here David. Everything fits together really nicely, and the animations are very nice. This mock shows how GMB could clean up their graphics and bring consistency to them throughout. Nice to see the Weather regain it's own designated on screen place, rather then being part of the ticker.

I agree with your decision not to include the GMB logo alongside the main on screen graphics, but would be nice if it could feature in the TOTH in some way. That's my only suggestion.

Nice. I like. Simplistic with all the detail you need.

The same colours make it look a little bland however. Could do with different colours on the clock, the weather and the contact us, or maybe swap the colours around.

I do feel you need the logo there somewhere. And that the clock also needs to be a little bigger.

I feel you can make up some room from the weather bug which seems a little large with a lot of wasted space in the middle.

Fair point, RDJ, regarding the weather. It's as long as it is to match the length of the contact box, which is as long as it is to fit the longest detail inside (the Facebook page URL). You are correct that there's wasted space, though, which I could certainly look at.

I take your point about the very blue colouring. I'll have a play and see if I can make it a bit more varied.

Amendment A

Following on from comments, I have made the following changes:

- I have made the ticker/main graphics larger in order to fit more detailed information inside
- I have eliminated the wasted space on the right by removing the 'contact us' box and replacing it with a social media icon and by making the weather box shorter to avoid a large gap between location and temperature
- I have made the graphics less of a blue whitewash by changing the clock to red to make it stand out more, and by making the 'weather' tag yellow

Here's a still image for now to show you the changes. If it is deemed a suitable update, I can animate this in the same manner as before to show the 'end product'.

Let me know what you think.

Considering I have a part time job in retail, the headline 'Struggling High Street' is a bit concerning. Laughing

Other than that, it is nice to see that you have worked on the suggestions I would quite like to see the amended graphics animated. The only complaint I have is that I'm not the biggest fan of the light blue and the yellow seems slightly garish to me (although I could be in the minority there).

Overall though, a good improvement to an already good mock. 4/5

Great improvement here - the new colour palette is much better, and nice to see the usage of social media icons on the contact bar now.

It's very nice to see someone taking notice of feedback and applying it to their mock, which has been a rarity in The Gallery lately. Wink

I sent David these ideas for how he could reduce the size of the weather section yesterday morning
*

top 1 have everything centralised, this provides some symmetry with the new this morning tags they use on the left
middle 1 - have everything right aligned to mirror the other graphics and the weather text is now only in a box for the size needed like headlines, new this morning etc
bottom 1 - matching other graphics - although the box extends a lot longer than the text it matches with the extended boxes in the TOTH headlines

I thought with this design you could then use the weather section for the coming up tease bits too with coming up 07:15 in place of weather then paper review, showbiz news, local news in the white block etc

or to make even more space for the flipper it could cycle through the weather and contact us details in the same place then the flipper could go the full length

I like how you have managed to fit everything into the single block though. I do agree that the text generally is a bit small and everything could do with making a tad bigger but other than that it looks nice and clean. I like how you have added the facebook F too so you don't have to say facebook then facebook.com.gmb. I was thinking about adding icons too to reduce the space needed

As I said to David in a PM I don't think you need to have contact us on screen all the time so I suggested it says contact us then animates to show facebook, twitter, website info etc and we seem to have been thinking along the same lines with that

One thing I've always hated about GMB graphics is the amount of wasted space on the right that is only used a few seconds an hour with coming up teases and stuff. Re-introducing the weather section all the time in this smaller space to me looks a lot nicer than them squishing up text on the main strap which becomes almost unreadable whilst a 3rd of the screen is empty.

Enough with the Gotham font. It's like the first font people seem to think of these days when they mock or something new makes it to air. I'm sick of seeing it everywhere. So overused.
