This month’s challenge:
Create an identity for a mythical “Channel 6” You can show idents, logos, whatever you’d like, you can name the channel anything you’d like too, for example “6, SIX, CH6 etc”

The channel is aimed for 30 – 60 year olds and has content that is a mixture of programmes similar to those you would see on ITV3, BBC Four, a mixture of drama and documentary, a more serious channel with less entertainment than BBC One, but not quite to “high brow” as BBC Four.

The "6" logo is clever in it’s 2D/3D concept and it's design is well crafted and visually appealing. The logo however seems boxy and square which to me conjures up thoughts of squares and thus a four sided object. Note sure about the DOG placement, could become distracting if it were to cover up and lower thirds on programmes etc. However the overall skill displayed is high, elements are within the safe areas and with fonts and sizes that would suit a number of smaller TV sets. Well done!

Very clever concept and well though out. The "contrast" idents idea is original and has great potential for humour and subtly. Overall design is simplistic and bold which I feel suits the target audience. Good use of elements in a particular the smaller variant of the “6” logo. Again a high standard of technical skill resulting in a pleasing and clever concept.

A good idea with potential but room for improvement in its implementation. The 2nd set of graphics were definitely an improvement on the originals but again consideration for graphic/text safe areas should be accounted for safe areas. A good effort overall but showing promise.

5 sided shapes? That stood out at first, surely a 6 sided object would be more apt? However, very nice to see a clock a very welcome inclusion, and again good overall implementation but as with a few others the text safe areas should be considered a bit more.

A very slick looking set of graphics that had me in mind of Sky Atlantic (that’s a good thing) a few odd aspect ratios in there and some odd bars did detract from the look slightly. But again adding to the high quality of submissions and the programme trail end board looked particularly good. Well done.

Not sure if I would call it “simplistic” but again a good submission. Safe areas are adhered to and the provided videos are a good indication of the overall style you were going for. Personally not sure it would fit the target audience and could date quite quickly?

I liked the colour themes depending on the programme style and the boldness of the 6 logo in the trailers. However on the idents it seems smaller could get lost or overlooked?

Clearly some effort went into this mock with real life drawings and photographs. A clever concept but I’m not sure “six” that wasn’t in the logo form and then the logo reveal would work, perhaps just the six logo as it should be in real world environments? A very high quality submission and I liked the subtle colour bars on the breakdown slide very much.

Visually very rich the dice style dots logo used to very good effect. As with many of the others good use of fonts, colour and scale with elements within the graphic safe areas. Particularly like the six perspectives theme for the idents. Very high quality overall.

And the nominees are..

Between these it was very had to pick a winner, all show clever original conepts and each is very well conveyed. Andyface made my laugh with the fish and fish and chips ident, the effort put in by James with the real life ident photos and the overall “sheen” on dosxuks work is impressive.

But there can only be one winner, and that is..

James for his “real life” idents which are very well shown and the effort put into them pays off. From the desk to cans of soup. Well done James!

James, start thinking for a new concept for May’s Gallery Challenge, PM when you have it and we’ll get the next thread set up.

Everyone else, thanks for entering, viewing, commenting and rating the mocks, I think you’ll all agree it’s been a good thing for this part of the forum and has brought some very clever ideas to light that aren’t more of the same BBC/ITV/News mocks.

Well done to you all!

Yes in my mind the winner (James) sets the topic and picked the winner, that winner then has reign over the next challenge and so on.
