five news

Thought I'd have a go at creating a new look for five news, seeing as the current look does absolutely nothing for me. I've decided to take an unusual step and go for having yellow as the main colour for the graphics - don't worry though, it's not too bright or used too often.

Before the titles, we get a slide detailing the top story...

Then we go to the titles. Now then, you need to use your imagination here - the titles move very quickly between clips of newsy places around the world. I've distorted them and tried to make them similar to the original 5 News titles, lets hope you can see what I mean.

We then cut to a shot of the presenter (here, it's Heather McCarthy - I didn't have a picture of Kirsty Young but she is more than suitable as a replacement!) in the studio. This has a large videoscreen on one wall, plus a seating area (not shown) but the presenter stands up usually.

So what do you think? Does the yellow work?

Good stuff, Phil. I think the yellow works fine - no reason why it shouldn't be a 'news' colour, really, and it's certainly very original!

They're quite good, and I think the yellow is OK (if a little bright - I would have gone for a slightly more orangey yellow). Just a few other comments -

I think a proper square shape would have worked better than the upright rectangle you've gone for, especially for the five NEWS logo.

The inset looks a little strange all the way down at the bottom of the screen. Perhaps it should go at the top left with the story details inside it?

Other than that, good work. Especially the studio - which looks great.
