ERR/ETV

Just for a change, I thought I might redo Estonian public TV (March 2012)

So, it's been a looong time since I last mocked (under a different username, possibly ukmmcool, or splashthegreen, can't remember) and I've really been missing it. Anyway, recently I was watching an Estonian channel called ETV1 to see the Estonian qualifiers for Eurovision, and I looked at the presentation of the channel. It's not amazing, and needs some serious improvement and modernisation.

I did a bit of research, and found out that the TV organisation merged with the national radio organisation to create ERR - it's got a pretty cool logo, and the radio stations have adopted the name, but the TV group has not. So, time for a change perhaps?

Bear in mind their current graphics are simple (text on the screen, like subtitles) so I thought, let's just step it up a bit, keep it fairly simple, but fresh. I'm going to test out the first channel, ETV1, but I'm calling it ERR1. Let me know what you think.

*

This carries on their former colour of pink in the ETV logo, and I wasn't mad about it at first, but it does add a modern touch to the channel. The white bar would slide out, then the logo would fade in. The picture isn't great (it's from a movie) but I'm using it to illustrate the idents I could see - very similar to the first batch of the ITV1 idents where there were people just going about their lives - in this case, a couple in a park.

*

This is the basic DOG that would appear - it's not terribly intrusive, and is similar to the current ETV DOG.

*

This is the first part of a trail for a programme (in this case the final of Eesti Laul, the qualifiers for Eurovision)...

*

...and this is the endcap. Similar to ITV2 in a way, but very simple.

I've tried to keep it simple, but modern, and have taken inspiration from various channels in the UK. It really does help that the ERR logo is just so pretty, and very versatile. Let me know what you think, & may I say it's good to be back Smile

I really love this! It's clean, simple and I can see it working onscreen! I'd love to see more of this! Very Happy

Were you banned before or did you close your account on your own will?

Well, I just didn't log in for a few years, tried to remember my username, but none of the ones I use were coming up trumps. Maybe my account was deleted for inactivity, I'm not sure.

I've found my old account by looking through the old Mock Designs forum - I was Bander, tried to log in but that account was suspended due to inactivity.

Ok thats fine, I though that you might have been a previously banned user, as signing up again would not be permitted.

As for the mock, its great so far - would like to see more of your ideas. Smile

I was toying around with the graphics for ERR2 - I wanted the channel to have a different distinctive look, but to still fit in with the same type of presentation. Originally I created this:

*

And it does look alright, but as a concept, it's just too different. Why have ERR1 then ERR Kaks? So, I started working on ERR2, looking for a logo that would work in a sufficient way. As you can already guess, the black and white colours have switched around, to reflect the 'different but similar' theme. Get ready for the ident:

*

As you can see, its more or less the same. The idents I'd like to see would be a little bit more abstract, maybe some animation as well - the original colour of ETV2 was orange, but if I'm honest, I have that saved up for their breakfast show, and the colour is too similar in tone to ERR1's pink, so I changed it to a cool blue. The cut out 2 is a little bit more extreme, but I believe ETV2's audience are considerably younger, so I thought I would reflect this.

*

The DOG is more or less the same size, opacity etc, but represents the change in logo. Again, its about fitting the channels in to a uniform style. Which brings me onto:

*

*

As you can see, the uniform style is kept, but flipped. This makes the channels distinctive, but similar.

Let me know what you think of ERR1 and 2, and any improvements I could make. Thank you!

No-one has any suggestions for how I can improve/where to go next? Sad

You could try doing some Now/Next/Later type of graphics, and maybe try something for the news?

Generally, I think the reason you aren't receiving much criticism is bacause there isn't anything bad to criticise, IMO. It's all very neat and nice.

Done an update with the news - Oddly enough, ERR Uudised does quite well in terms of presentation, but here's what it would be like with an update. Here's the title screens for the evening bulletin and the afternoon programme:

*

*

The title screen would show events, people across Estonia, etc. with the circle border thing moving around with each shot. I seem to remember North West Tonight doing something vaguely similar for a short time. Usual news fare really. Here's the name aston:

*

A ticker (which only displays one story at a time - I think this is better for shows, as the scrolling ticker is suited to rolling news; also, Estonian has a tendency to use more words per story)

*

And here is the headline aston - nice and clear:

*

This is slightly ITV News, if I'm honest, but I assure you that's unintentional. I've tried to take a few elements of ERR Uudised's past look through with me. Hope you like it, and there will be more in terms of Now/Next screens soon Smile
