Have you done anything more on your Daybreak mock? I know it's unlikely, as if you had you'd have posted, but just thought I'd ask anyway!
House
Well House. Thanks for asking
Err, I did do a bit and it's all kinda scattered around files on my computer. I'll do a bit more tonight (between the 40 or so pages of school work to between now and Wednesday night!)
I've been away and working and blah blah blah so not really thought much about it - and when I do think about it, my creative side just goes blank! Anyways, I'll see what I can dig out and work on over the new few days, before the BIG LAUNCH on the 6th!
My imagination has really gone blank on the whole Daybreak thing. The graphics all look ridiculous. Only really happy with the DOG, ticker and caption.
Still miles ahead of ITV's solution, in my opinion.
The one thing you could do is make the green on the markets results a little darker, and similarly I'm not too keen on the bevel/ shadow on the arrows. Otherwise great!
It reminds me a lot of what GMTV had, especially with the background and the white transparent rectangle behind the main feature.
I really like it but I agree with House, I think the green should be a little darker to make the text more legible on the white/grey, and maybe try it without the beveled effect.
Thanks all for the comments. I haven't posted any more because I went completely blank with ideas. The graphics were inspired by GMTV, because I rather liked them As for the name straps, to be honest, won't take much imagination to make it better than what it currently is!
Okay, while a bit bored AGAIN today, Another Daybreak Caption. I took this picture on my phone a few weeks back, and when I uploaded it to Twitpic (http://www.twitpic.com/2xcx9b) I thought it was a pretty good snap.

Don't like it as much as your previous one, but still more inspired than the lot ITV came up with. Is that the actual daybreak font this time?

It's the daybreak logo with the purple 'magic wand-ed' out on Fireworks, and the sunrise logo thing added onto it.
I've really hit a wall with the graphics. I keep seeing the dog and thinking 'no' - thus not carrying on. I'm still getting some ideas as to some graphics, but not enough to put together in a package
The shadow on the arc (for want of a better word) above Daybreak doesn't work as well - something about the shadow that just isn't the same as that on the Daybreak part. I also don't think the "News" and "Finance" bits are quite fitting under "Daybreak" as well as they could. The letter spacing/ kerning could do with tweaking on those words too!
Otherwise I think it's great. Far nicer, friendlier graphics than those of Daybreak's, and with a better brand to it. It was bold of the GMTV/ Daybreak team to move to purple, but I do think the oranges in yours work far better. Much warmer.
What I can't decide is if I prefer the dawn-over-a-town title to the blue and orange pattern one.
