Channel 5 Idea

An idea to mix the current circular identity to its roots of the 5 colours. (February 2015)

A trailer example:

Due to the use of Quicktime Screen Recording the quality has ended up very choppy.
I hope it gives you an idea though.

The trailers would start and end with the logo centre screen before exiting to the centre along with the rounded rectangle. This would reverse at the end with the programme information appearing in the spinning ring before shrinking with the 5 logo appearing.

I like the video in which you exercise the DOG - looks like you did take a look at the ten mock like I suggested.

I like what you have, would it always be purple or would it be able to match the other colours too?

I don't mind the positioning in fact when you take into account that other mock and the way the logo was able to be integrated justifies positioning it where you have. Can we see some more stuff on this front?

As for the trailer, I'm not overly keen. The transition between the initial logo and the footage isn't very professional in my opinion. The spinning with the programme title works and the transition to the 5 is fine but I'd like to see something else. It reminds me of the current stuff we have and albeit it is good, you've got a new logo and I can't help but feel the coloured sections could play a more important part - not sure how. Your rebrand, in my opinion, should put a whole new perspective on each individual aspect of the channel. Also, although I had the idea of the circle spinning I think it gets boring when you use it for both the promos and in-programming advertising - try a few different things to add depth to it.

Really great start and a promising continuation. Really enjoying this mock, as I once attempted to do a rebrand (or a few) for the channel because I too want to see it given new life.

As shown in the DOG + graphic video, the loss of the gaps takes away the the actual principle of the logo, the differing sections, when it is not shown in colour - and personally, I much preferred the gaps as they made the logo feel more modern.

The video is hard to see how the graphic motions work, if you say you've screen captured, than you must've created it on PowerPoint or keynote. Files from both of these programs can be saved as a video format without loosing the quality too much.

I agree. Think the DOG looks so much better bottom left too. Of the four corners of the screen always thought top left was the worst choice.

That was the whole point of the original mock with the font choice and segmented ring having a modern take on it but that got disliked by many.

I prefer the dog in the bottom left - for some reason the UK loves them up top. Both Cartoon Network and the Disney Channel have moved their logos back to the top corners of the screen over the past year.

As for the recording. PowerPoint for Mac 2011 doesn't play out the animations when saved as a movie (my version doesn't anyway).

Declan I was working on this before and yes it was the ten mock which got me thinking about the whole rebrand idea. As for the spin it would work for the ring as the sections of itv's logo appear and bbc one's logo swirls. It may work differently in idents but it has to stay consistent for presentation.

I was thinking about the colours, and thought that the ring should keep the focus and thought that the magenta could be the primary colour of the main channel with the dark teal for proper sub brands and additional channels; news, USA, etc.

An idea for an ident - quick storyboard.

Using toy robots of the five colours they would appear walking in different frames with different show types. More of the same colours would show before the final shot is overhead with the robots walking around the '5'.

Don't quite get the robot thing but as part of a batch of sometimes seemingly random idents it probably works. Do like the modified logo though with each colour broken into 5 pieces.

The idea would be objects to fit into different genres. I'll try to add a few more.
