Cbeebies Rebrand

An idea for a Cbeebies Rebrand (February 2015)

The name change isn't completely threatening to me though the rest of it is a mistake. The fonts look cheap and low rate, try the 'junior' in a different font and with the current CBBC and BBC logo. The iPlayer tag on looks too small and all the graphics are clearly out of safe zones. It generally screams PowerPoint and cheap.

BTW, don't post anything when you know it

Personally I don't have a problem with people posting their ideas onto the site, getting feedback is one of the most important parts of mock making.

The name could work, it would be a bit jarring at first but so are other channel renames - Sky Three to Pick and UK G2 to Dave.

However the current CBBC logo just wouldn't work on a channel for the under-5s.

It might be worth having another go at this, take on what everyone's said. You might just surprise us.

It would be the equivalent of renaming Dave to UKTV G2.

tbh, I can't think of a more untouchable channel name than CBeebies, only a shift in target demographic would ever see it changed.

Plus the other 2 main under-7 childrens channels already have the word "Junior" in their names. If the BBC were replacing the CBeebies brand, I'm sure they'd come up with something more original than that.

BBC Teens = CBBC
BBC Kids = CBeebies

That's just my suggestion though.

BBC Teens = CBBC

The target audience for CBBC is 6-12 as you can see on this PDF. Not 13-16, where'd you pluck those figures from? Confused

This mock is fundamentally flawed.

There is a reason why only American kids channels have a "Junior" version - it comes from the US concept of having a child named after their father and being their junior. Whilst it's not an alien concept for us by any means, it's not a very BBC name.

Ignoring that, it's clear that there's major improvement needed in terms of skill, and the design in general.

There's no regard to safe areas of any kind, which instantly makes the whole design look wrong. The font choice is poor (you want the channel to appeal to 5 year olds, not to look like it's been designed by one).

It's also clear that, whatever tool you're using, you're not using it to its full potential. There are plenty of free programs that can produce much better results than PowerPoint (GIMP, Inkscape, even stuff like Paint.NET),

My advice is to download one of those programs, find some tutorials to familiarise yourself with its capabilities, and then go from there. I think you are really limiting yourself by your choice of software, and your knowledge of it.

1/5.

What figure? And since when did twelve become twelveteen?

Sorry, typos galore in that post. I meant 13-16, which is a widely accepted age group for "teens".

And not one which watches CBBC very often I imgine.

Yeah, the Teens would probably relate to some of the programmes BBC Three show.

BBC Teens/YA = BBC3

Excellent.

So in conclusion, this mock should be scrapped or started again with a new name and branding.
